So, I got back from Charlotte tonight... and waiting for me was a box!

I had ordered something from Hoover the other day - from the store I formerly worked at...

I had sort of assumed that it was going to be a blue one--like I've been seeing everywhere. But I guess I wasn't told, nor did I ask what color it was going to be.
I actually like having the silver one; different!

All un-boxed and assembled!

Gotta try it right away!

Love the emblem embossed in the tools again! Took them 45 years to start doing this again! LoL

Right away when I turned it on, I noticed it didn't sound like a Windtunnel. They must have at some point started outsourcing (I presume) a different motor. It sounds NOTHING like previous generations of Windtunnels that I have been used to.

One from 1999, one from 2008:

Fred,

That sure is a beautiful Windtunnel. I like the silver one you have better than the blue ones

My turn for 100th Anniversary Hoover!

Fred,
Love it! Does the motor sound better or quieter or just different? Hey yours matches my silver windtunnel canister.
I really like the fact that the Hoover logo is now back on the tools. I am excited for you!
I don't know which I like best, the blue is such a stunning color but the silver is so different and appealing in a different way. Guess we will have to have get one of each!
Rob

My turn for a 100th Anniversary Hoover

Fred,
I see 2 Boxes in the picture. Did you get a bagless Hoover?

Boxes...

I had the Windtunnel shipped in another box, as to not have the 100th Anniversary box beat to hell by FedEx.

:-)

I don't know if the motor necessarily sounds of a different quality--but it's definitely not what the Windtunnel Motor used to be. If you run your Orange Self Propelled WT, and then run your Anniversary WT, I bet you'll hear the difference. ((If they changed the motors in the regular WTs as well.))

My turn for 100th Anniversary Hoover

Fred,
You are correct! I got my Hoover Windtunnel from 2001 out and compared the sound and noise. I thought the Windtunnel from 2001 was poor quality and loud but it's nothing compared to the high pitched whine of the new Hoover Windtunnel. At least the Anniversary Canister has a nice sound!I am really enjoying the looks of these Anniversary Hoovers and these will be the last of genuine Hoover design as we knew it.

Hi all. I am new to this site, but bring over 30 years of vintage vacuum fascination with me. I wanted to comment on how the sound is so different from previous windtunnels. I once owned the orignal WindTunnel from 96 or 97, can't remember the exact date. It was maroon and was not self propelled and had the same base as today's bagless, non self-propelled wind tunnel. But the sound was a screeching, shrill, loud, whining sound. I remember thinking how the motor didn't rev up or down, but just kind of went ON at full speed and then went off, as opposed to the vintage Hoover's, more gradual and more pleasant on and off.

Anyhow, I mention this because I just bought the Anniversary
"Convertible" (I have mixed feelings about calling this a convertible) which is an updated V2 or Savvy. I have one of the original Savvys and the sound is EXACTLY the same, other than the crunching noise of the Savvy's dual agitator. I recently got plush carpet and could NOT push that one on the new carpet, and this one moves so well (even though not self propelled) that it gets away from me and I am nicking tables and baseboards. I think they rethought that dual agitator with the saavy and changed it before this newest model, but I don't have one of those.

It's nice from the pictures here that they got rid of all the "windtunnel" graphics and sales pitch on the base and just focus on the beloved Hoover logo, which is clearly not an afterthought or decal.

Just wanted to comment on the difference between these various "anniversary" models and their predessor models. I do like My anniversary vacuum and think, for the most part, it is improved over the Savvy, but I would have rather seen them call this an updated Dial a Matic, rather than convertible since it looks more like those. I know, there's no dial and they are referring to conversion between bag and bagless, but I still think it's a stretch.

glad to see the logo on the tools... amazed that they did it

a better group of designs for anniversary cleaners, AGREE?
THAT SAVVY/CONERTIBLE idea was "dismal". I was told that they were going to make Miss Connie in colors... we'll see. Maybe that's why they're discontiuing the stainless steel......

I think someone should contact management of Hoover and see if they can make a real anniversary model of the Hoover all metal convertible. now I bet that would be a site for sore eyes. dont you agree?
