Oooh and look at that delicious Eureka self propelled upright and the Electrolux Upright.. You're gonna have to bring those over for testing here... Does the drive wheels on that Eureka have the flat spot like mine,, remember seeing them , or are they ribbed?

Hmmm...

That Singer is absolutely no good without a hose! You'll just have to send that along to me, so I can dispose of it for you.
(I have a hose that fits that model)

Look Pete...EPHEMERA!!!

aeoliandave's profile picture
Let's see, it's all neatly packed in the trunk until Sunday as there's no proper place prepared in the house and I have two 12 hours days ahead at work. LOL

The Eureka self-propelled wheels are smmooth, sticky rubber and round, no ribs and no flat spot. I checked that when packing it away. Ran it in the store and dang if it doesn't traction perfectly in both directions. Both Eurekas and the Singer appear to have been little used aka no fold-overs or bends in the paper ephemera. No scuffs or scratches on the tools. They said this stuff came in in a lot this morning...and it was 30% Thursday at Sally Anne as well. :-)

Over at Goodwill the ZB30 came in on Monday piled in a box and they shoved it under a table in a VERY crowded store. They were more than happy that someone took away that junk for $5.
Gawd Damn! The two manuals alone...and then to realize this is a correct & intact tool set with two extra wands, and extra Moth Canister, the cloth bag is perfect and no rust at all.
Rick, the flip-over floor tool has a raised bump on the front with Electrolux script in relief. My other two Lux tools with the long thin slot along the topside have smooth fronts, so to me this represents a THIRD variation of this style tool. It is illustrated with the bump in the 1939 and 1941 manuals so is perhaps unique to Canadian ZB30s?

I wonder what Mr Smith will have to say in explanation...

The Prolux got my attention when I read ELECTROLUX across the front. Am I right that this is a heavy duty Commercial model? Must have come from a closed down office with about 4 dozen bags and not banged up like one would expect if used in a factory environment. Close examination shows that very supple orange cord with molded orange plug to be original I think.

Real nice clean office chair, an extemely heavy chromed 8" D make-up/shaving beveled mirror with magnifyer mirror on other side and a 'face lamp' on the base.

Down front is a really cool foot vibrator massager by Dr Scholls...in pale green.

The Filter Queen satchel contains the usual pink or brown tools (sprayer, shampooer kit, hair dryer hood, bottle of shampoo and 2 vials of scent) but also two long neck notched accessories for the Old FQ you sent me home with last week.

I had no idea I would stumble over these treasures. The twingle said GO so I did.

Oh, the Singer has a hose. It's just not in the hastily arranged picture. But I do have an extra crevice tool. LOL.

It has the remnants of a garage sale sticker price of $69 on it - I got it for $10. It looks remarkably un-used.

Is the hose supposed to be ribbed beige plastic? Well, I have to review Doug's site and the recent threads about the Singers for the answer...

Dave
Is your Eureka self propelled a 5.5 amp motor or an ESP
6.5. I don't remember! help me out !
I know the black Boss is a 6.5 ESP. It was a budget
model that sold here in Dept stores to hit a $139.00
price point! or less on Sale ! In the late 80's. I recomended several
friends to buy that machine back then.

Norm, I magnified the original picture and it looks like it reads 5.2 amp High Performance. (?)

It and the ProLux Plus are in the kitchen so I'll confirm or correct that when I get home in 2.5 hours...

Please, PLEASE...

...tell me the eureka mighty mite isn't like a super rare vacuum! I might have to pull my hair out! I gave one away because I never had made a really good relationship with it and I was making room for more elites. Just tell me I didn't give away someone's dream vacuum or some piece of treasure.

I have no idea about its scarcity or not, Joe. And I haven't had time to play with it yet. But I did think it was rather robustly built, it has the clip-on tool rack, all the tools barely used in dark brown, the 1985 manual and 8 bags with that rather specific trapezoidal cardboard inlet. All that was enough to make it want-able. Also it reminded me of the Hoover Tempos that were discussed in an earlier thread.

It must have come as a pair to the Eureka series 5000 self-propelled as both manuals are copyright 1985.

That little Singer...

has Power-Glide written on it. I am going to assume then, that the fans are driven by said Power-Glide which is preceded by a 283 small block with a single exhaust/cross-over pipe system. Combustion mixture being supplied by a two-barrel Rochester Carb. Being a Power-Glide, this vacuum is a two speed.......which.....

Sorry, just living in the past....

I could be wrong on this but I seem to remember that Singer sold those Power Glides often as a package along with an upright.

That would make sense, Terry. and if Eureka did the same thing it might explain the Eureka's superb unused condition - given as a wedding present maybe and she just liked her Electrolux more...

Well, sure enough, the Eureka Upright hood says 5.2 amps High Performance Motor. underneath it is identified as a Model 5057E.

Oh, the copyright date is 1984 on both manuals. Paperwork never filled out.

Post# 51875 , Reply# 19   9/19/2008 at 23:16 (5,689 days old) by hoover1060 ()
You're right Terry

You could buy the Singer Power Glide canister with the Power Master Upright for one price. Back in their day it was about $90 for both.
That canister is vintage 1975-1978.

Dave the house should be crushproof, off white to match the tools and swivel at both ends.
Thats a nice find!!

Hey Dave

The Singer is a model 12AC which, thanks to another thread here, I now know was produced in 1975. They also did a model 12BC - A as in Apricot color B as in Blue C meaning the Canadian version.

Good Lord, I hope my house is crushproof!!!

Best laugh I'd had all day, Jeff.

Yup, that would be the hose that's in the box in the car with the Singer.

Now, about these 3 flip-over floor tools with Gleaners on the narrow slot...

The top one has a black rubber bumper sandwiched between the sole plate and body. Middle one has a solid cast body. The bottom one has a solid cast body from the top joint down.

On the topside, the top two have a slotted gleaner edge integral with the back plate.

The bottom one has a fixed cylindrical gleaner bar surround by a half tube that swivels using the tab to cover over the gleaner presentinmg a smooth face to the floor. The assembly is located in the middle of the wide intake, forming two thin slits either side.

Hi Dave - you're right about the rug nozzles - the lowest one was actually used both in Canada and the US (In Canada on the late model XII's and the early ZB30's - in the US on the early XXX's) the middle one was from the late canadian ZB30's and the top one with bumpers was from the US model XXX

This Electrolux flip-over would date or pre-date the 1935 Canadian XII then, according to that 1935 American manual?
