I took this photo back in 1993 soon after discovering this shop in Hampton Wick, now sadly long gone.

Why did you show us this picture?? It always makes me so sad to see all that great stuff...that probably went to the dumpster.

I know what you mean!

It is evocative, and some of this stuff did get chucked. But I did rescue some of them (like the pink, green and blue model 652s and the model 262 on the right). It is also where I got 3,yes, 3!, model 638s. I just wish I could go back there. I would always look forward to visiting the shop. There was always something new that the owner put down there.

Those Plugs....

Man....I get such a kick out of the comically oversized plugs they use in the UK. I remember when I went abroad in 2003 I saw the plug adapter for the UK and went "HOLY COW!"

Such nice sleek Hoover machines, and then.....that plug..........idk why, but it makes me laugh every time!

A Tomb in Wolverhampton full of pre-1939 Hoovers

...........a cellar to be more accurate which was sealed up as it was an easier option rather than clear it out.....so I was told by a man I knew well who reconditioned metal bodied UK made Hoover uprights only.

I still wonder what treasures that 'vault' held ?

Regards, Walter, Shropshire, UK.

My only hope is that somebody finds it someday, and that those cleaners entombed in the vault turn out to be in better shape than that 1957 Plymouth they unearthed in Tulsa, Oklahoma last year...

That picture reminded me of the cellar at a vacuum repair shop that was in Agawam, Massachusetts not far from where I live. I know the owner and helped him over a 5 week span of time as he moved to a new location in 2003. Sadly there was an awful lot of vacuums and parts that were left behind when the building was torn down. I will say that I did receive 26 upright vacuums from him in various conditions for helping him. We still stay in touch and I hope to one day buy some of his old vacs.
