I've never had a Kirby before, now I found two in the same day!
First I found the Tradition at a yard sale. It was in the back of the garage. The lady said make me an offer, I told her $10. She finally let me have it for ten.
The Omega was from the same friend of my Dad's that let me have the irons.(See the irons thread for those.) I pluged it in and it sounds good, the lightbuld even still works! Not bad for sitting outside for several years! I did have to evacuate the garage to let the dust settle.
I was surprised that the Tradition has a dump bag. I thought this was the model that had the first paper bags? Was that just an option for a while?
Nicholas

Does anyone know how much it would cost to send these into Kirby to be rebuilt?
Thanks
Nicholas

do it yourself save money

A vac shop or kirby center will charge you most likely around $300per machine to restore the machine to like new.You can purchase the parts from hescoinc.com and do the work yourself for alot less. There are many members of this group including my self who have redone many kirby vacuums.

These are two of my favorites

If I remember correctly, as the Tradition was the model I sold in my college days. The Tradition had an option of shake out or throw away bags. The ones sold for commercial purposes usually chose the shake out.

I take it from the shinny tape on the front ot the Tradition that they had adjusted the cleaning head too low and the belt burned through the Vis-a-belt window.
