I have been using the Hoover Anniversary Convertible and the Hoover Anniversary Windtunel for the last two weeks. They are quite different in performance.
(1) The Convertible has an automatic brush shut off or a manuel shut off on the handle. This makes using the dusting tools much quieter and is easier if you want to use the machine itself on the hardwood floors.
(2) The standard attachment hose for the Convertible seems to work much better and the machine pulls backwards much easier than the windtunnel.
I have a lot of carpet and bare floors so if I HAD to make a choise it would be the Convertible because the dusting tools work better and it is quieter BUT that Windtunnel sure is a beautiful color.(3) The Windtunnel seems to have a little more suction but the Convertible seems to have better air-flow. This shows up when you go off the edge of the carpet or use the powered hand tool which comes with the Convertible.
(4) There is one air inlet passage on the Windtunnel and the Convertible has one at each end of the nozzle and the Convertible has the belt in the center. The Convertible SOUNDS much more like a Hoover on the Carpet. The Windtunnel is just plain LOUD.
(5) I also much prefer the light on the Convertible. The Windtunnel just has a bright bulb glaring into nowhere.
The lens on the Convertible might get broken easily because it is so close to the carpet.
(6) In summary: As a vac collector I like them both. The Convertible is quieter and MUCH easier (almost pleasant) to use with the dusting tools. I got the Hoover extension hose and the connection is better on the Convertible. With the Windtunnel you must remove the regular hose before attaching the extension hose. I am using the fuller brush that came with my Constellation tools. I do not like the bagless part of the Convertible and would prefer to use the bin with the hepa bag. That is just a personel preference. They both are beautiful colors but the Windtunnel is a stunning blue shade. If you like the sound of the older Hoovers on the Carpet then you will prefer the Convertible and using the tools is much better on the Convertible but I do have some reservations about the durability of the Convertible. I would think these would be the last of real Hoover designs.

I thought about buying one of the anniversary convertibles at sears but I thought that it would be to difficult to change the bag due to the design of the bin. What did you think of that art of it? The other anniversary hoover I may get is the self propelled windtunnel.

Hoover Anniversary uprights in use

The Convertible comes with two bins. One is for the bagless set up and they give you a second bin to be used only with the Y bag set-up. I was having some problems with the Hepa Y bag. The regular Y bag works fine but the rubber membrane that they have added to the new hepa Y bags is more difficult to use. I just cut the rubber off and had no more trouble with the hepa bag. The top comes off the bin and the bag fits on a tube much like the other Hoover uprights. I did not get the powerdrive because I have had trouble with the powerdrives on several late model Hoovers. My powerdrive Windtunnel only was used several times before it broke. Never had any trouble with the older DAM and I have my grandmothers Concept One Powerdrive which works fine although I personally hate that Hoover. It's just too heavy, too loud, leaks dust and the attachements are all but useless.

Rob
Thank you so much for being a part of the 100th anniversary celebration. By telling us about the new Hoover models and
how they are working or not. It's a good thing to have that
information.
We really missed seeing you at the convention. I did meet the
two younger guys from Bloomington, or Southern Indy?? Talked
with them after the Kirby tour. We need to start thinking about a fall mini meet maybe!? Maybe late fall before the weather gets too bad!

The Kirby tour was awesome!!! Talk about finding Mecca!! And the "gift shop"!!! Oh it was like a candy store! my Kirby hat is in the office where I can look on it with fond memories.

The Mini-meet sounds like fun! Where did you want to have it?
