I was in a local vac shop picking up a new belt for my Sharp, but 2 sales people wouldn't shut up about Riccar and how I needed to get one because Sharp hasn't made vacs for a few years. Yeah, yeah, yeah, tell me something I don't know.

They way they went on, you'd think Riccar vacuums keep the sun and moon up in the sky. Are they really that good? My Sharp works just fine, but I need to get a cannister to replace my poor Eureka soon (oh Miele...). 95% of my house is hardwoods.

Dern! I swear I didn't see the 7/29 Riccar thread until after I posted...

don't you hate pushy salespeople like that. They must get a commission off of selling a new vacuum and don't want to waste their time selling you parts. When they do that to me I leave and go somewhere else

Now as you can tell by my username, I love Riccar. Their machines are AWSOME! If I was you and would be interested in a Riccar, I would go to a different shop. I got treated like crap @ a vac shop I went to for 12+ years and found a different shop and couldn't be happier. Also, if you are happy with your Sharp, don't buy a new one unless you ABSOLUTLY need one.
(I LOVE Riccar but they don't keep the sun and moon up 24/7. :P

just got a riccar

just got a riccar
off craglist. Lady stated that it was broken - brush roll wasn't spinning. For karma I explained to the lady it needed a new belt but she bought a new one already - yeah for me. It is a 4000 Preferred series, 100 line. I think bottom of the line. I replaced the belt. The vacuum is in excellent condition and even had the original receipt - $299.99 in 2002 if I remember right. Thought I finally had a quality vacuum for my weekend home at the Russian River. Unfortunately I am not impressed. I think the vacuum is kind of on the louder side - wasn't expecting that. the suction is great - problem is it doesn't groom the carpet well at all. I checked the brushes and even took to vacuum shop to compare to new brush strips - they are still brand new. I hate to say this but my self propelled windtunnel now two years down does a much better job. The Riccar will go to the collection

RE: Riccar Canister Vacuums

I have always heard that Riccars are excellent vacuums. The Riccar "Pristine" (celery colored)canister I tested blew me away by how much suction it had. They have two 12 Amp motors. Anyway, I liked it. As for the pushy salesman, I would go somewhere else if possible.

Hope that this will help you find the right vacuum.

Thanks,

Vacuumalex

I have the Riccar 1700, just one model below the TOL 1800, and I can only give rave reviews of it. It is extremely well made, the attachments are high quality, the suction excellent and easily controlled from the handgrip, and it has the cloth-type disposable bags that don't leak dust.

It is very comparable to a Miele, but doesn't quite have the prestige. My favorite vac store sells Riccar and Miele side by side - I couldn't do that. I would have one or the other.

They are not perfect vacuums - the power head quit two weeks after purchase. However, it was exchanged promptly with no questions asked. That is Riccar policy, not vac store policy. How many other marques will do that for a customer?

John
