For those of you who have been following the unfortunate course of the Thread “Hoover 69”, you will notice that it has been deleted. This thread took an unfortunate turn and deteriorated into disrespectful and unprofessional behavior. MAKE NO MISTAKE – this type of behavior will not be tolerated while I am the webmaster. I will not allow this site to suffer the fate of some of the other sites and it will be kept an open forum. The membership clearly voted for an open forum and until the next meeting when this can be brought up again by the membership, it will remain open. It will also remain a civil place.

To that end, I will take the following steps to keep this a friendly place where visitors can share their interest in vacuum cleaners without fear of attack or retribution. For the first instance of disrespectful behavior, an email notice will be sent to the involved posters that their behavior is less than dignified and to cease and desist. If this behavior is repeated or continues, the offenders will be banned from the site. Period. No jury trial, no appeals, no reinstatement. Sorry for the hard line guys, but I expect everyone to treat each other here with dignity and respect. I am sure that there are many folks out there watching what is happening here to see if they wish to join. This type of ugly behavior will not encourage people to join in. The club made an investment in this site, and I am going to protect that investment.

Thank you Fred

As a past Webmaster, I have a unique perspective on the delicate predicament you find yourself in when things start getting ugly.

If you censor postings, the injured parties get their feelings hurt and take their dollies and stomp home because they don't want to play nicely; if you don't do so, all the "innocent bystanders" suffer unfairly.

Just wanted to express my appreciation for the excellent work you are doing as Vacuumland's Webmaster.

Fred,

As the VP of the club more than anything when this sort of thing happens, I find it saddening.

Supposedly, we are all here because of an interest in vacuum cleaners, either vintage or newer. It brings shame and embarrassment upon the whole club when a few post inappropriately.

Fortunately, the majority of the club are great folks that support one and other. I hope that we can continue to move forward in that spirit.

Let's put a period at the end of this sentence and move on. Fred sent me a great TriStar and I will be posting pictures of it soon. Those are really great vacuums.

Today, I worked on a Filter Queen Majestic. Another great vacuum but that power head is so big and clunky. What were they thinking when that came down from the drawing board? I much prefer the smaller ones from the earlier models that are more maneuverable.

I know there is a relatively new model out but I have yet to see it. Does anyone know if it is direct connect yet? And if so, are there pictures on a site somewhere?

Thank you Fred! I think it is important to have some clean fun as there are some younger folks who visit and have a passion for vacuums. I would encourage anyone to join the VCCC as there are fantastic, honest, knowing people here. The ugliness needs to subside and lets enjoy these great machines that we all love so much! Thanks again Fred for looking out for everyone and I agree whole heartedly with you on this matter.

I too as membership coordinator am very sadden that this thread has brought about such behavior. We are all for the most part adults here and should learn to behave as such. Fred I thank you so very much for removing this thread from the site before more damage and hurt feelings came about. As I see it we are here for two reasons, our love and interest in vacuums and for the friendship of others who also love them. That being said, let us move forward as a united group. Once again, many thanks Fred.

Thanks Fred....

While I'm not a member of the club yet, I greatly appreciate the open forum. This has helped me make my decision to join. An open forum is a "window" into the club. I can meet the members, get a feeling of how well I'll fit in and hopefully meet some long term friends here. I can see alot of that in the few weeks I've been here. Also seeing the forum moderated in a great way shows the commitment you all have with the club and vacuums in general. Every forum has its ups and down no matter what the subject of it is.

Again, thanks and I hope the forum stays open so that new arrivals can see how this club operates. I'll be requesting te info on joining very soon.

Joe

I'm glad I joined now but when it was on that other site and closed to non-members it would be like buying a pig in a poke and I didn't want to risk wasting my money. So what did I end up with "The Adventures of Ida and Helen, tales from the dark side! " lol

Were it not for your initial and continuing leadership, Fred, this site wouldn't be here for everyone to enjoy. Thanks again!

Boundaries

Fred,
I want to add my support and gratitude for your willingness to insist on appropriate conversational boundaries on this site. Doing so maintains the dignity and accessiblity of our web site and our club. It is the only way a club such as ours will be able to endure in the long run. You have ceratinly protected the common good of everyone concerned.

Thanks,
Bruce Cinquegrani,

Thanks Fred!

This is exactly why I chose to join this site and the VCCC. On a previous vacuum site, I found myself constantly being bullied by the moderator-of all people! It turned me off because I don't believe it's anyone's place to tell another he's wrong simply because he expresses his opinion. I didn't see the "Hoover 69" thread but I will tell you that everyone I've encountered has at least been courteous and respectful. I think you're running good outfit here.

I appreciate you pulling that thread, and setting appropriate boundaries for postings. I agree with you 100% that we need to treat each other with dignity, respect, and civility. We also need to remember that we're here because of our common interest in Vacuum Cleaners and the friendship and fellowship of those who share that interest. And thank you Fred, for protecting these interests.
Jeff
