Hey guys, I'm looking at buying a Singer upright. It looks dark in color, and I'm wondering if some of them were painted, or were they all polished. I guess it could be rust of tarnish, but I have seen so many like this that I feel that I need to check with the experts (you guys).

The one I'm looking at does not have the cord winder, if that helps at all.

Singer R series

No, not all the Singer R series cleaners were polished. The later models (R-4 and up) were painted brown. I have an R-3 with the glass headlight lens. Somehow, I don't like the painted ones quite as much. They came right before the A-frame Singer in the late '40's.

Thank you very much!

I agree, the painted models are nowhere nearly as beautiful as the polished ones.
