Riccar or Simplicity. Which is preferred? Is one better than the other? Why?

Both companies are under Tacony and are the same exact thing just different colors. I myself prefer Riccars because that's what I grew up with and I'm stuborn. :)
Hope that answers your question.

Ricarr

I have a almost new ricarr black 5580,I like to use it because it has great performance and is silent.Mine has a metal brush role and I purchased the delux tool kit with the long hose to make cleaning the furniture easy.

I grew up with Riccar. My grandmother traded her Classic Omega that she bought new in 1974 in on a Riccar in 1992. It is a grey model(forgot the number). I always loved it and when she died I went in and took the vacuums ( the Riccar and her white and turquoise Electrolux L with power nozzel)before they could be thrown into the sale. My mom was glad I got the vacuums because she always supported my vac collection but my aunt was really pissed because that was about $5.00 she didn't get to make in the sale. They would not have let me buy them. None of the family were allowed to buy grandma's stuff because that wasn't fair. bla bla long story. anyhow I love Riccar but I would rather have Simplicity because I like that name better.
I still have both of those vacuum.

Same Vacs

I like the Riccar because of the color choices. Petty huh?? I recently purchased the Riccar Supralite RSL4 which is the same machine as the Simplicity Freedom. The Riccar is a deep saphire blue, whereas the Simplicity is an emerald green. My deciding factor was the salesman. The Riccar man was much nicer and didn't try to push me to a more expensive vac.
