Well, I took a trip up to visit Tania Voight this weekend. We went on a vacuum crawl to Kewaskum, WI. Nothing of note found since we have pretty well picked the place clean, but had a great time. Here is Buddy, her cat, that loves to get vacuumed. Here he is getting vacuumed with a pristine Electrolux Model G in tan.

While we didn't pick up much from Kewaskum, I did make a haul from Tania. She had this beautiful green Canadian Lux that she was going to sell, and (in her usual sweet generous style) gave it to me. It is beautiful. Not shown - the very large shag rug tool with LARGE wheels. OK Canadians - I know there was a thread not too long ago about these machines. I have always wanted one (the red 87 is beautiful.) Can I still get a replacement hose from Aerus for this machine? It doesn't have to match. I know I can get pigtail hoses for the US G from Aerus. How about the filters

CANADA surely had it all over us in terms of colors! I love both the green and the red ones, hoses included! Fred, that green one is a wonderful example! Congrats to you and kuddos to Ms Tania
See ya both in North Canton

Looking forward to seeing you as well. This convention should be great. I know I keep on saying that I will take a trip back to Southern California (and I will), but there is no reason you can't come here for a visit. The Midwest is beautiful this time of year (and we have some great vintage vacuums to find!) Here is a shot of the brand-new Legend II I picked up in Kewaskum last year

PS - Seeing Tania and her collection is worth the trip alone!

89 Filters

Hi Fred. That's a nice looking 89. I'm not sure about the replacement hose, but the last time I went to Aerus, the guy told me I could use Renaissance filters...all I had to do was cut them to fit properly. I did so and they seem to work, but they're not as thick as the old woolen ones
Here's a pic of my red 88...I still can't decide if its better looking than the 89

Fred I am glad that you had a great weekend. Being with Tania is always so much fun. That is one beautiful Electrolux!!! Just wondering from looking at the machine if it is easy to carry? Seems that with the handle not in the middle of the machine it might not be. Can't wait to see and use this one. Terry

In regards to replacement filters and hoses for the 80 series canisters:
Yes filters are still available. If the Aerus branch says no, they don't know the product number or are too lazy to look it up. I just saw some a couple of days ago that recently were ordered at the local Aerus.
Hoses, no longer available. What you have to do is save the machine end, cut off / tear off the old hose at the machine end, depending on which end is being used (straight metal or the one with the pig tail) you might have to get a 1.25 inch pipe insert and attach a new generic hose.
Hope this helps!!

Yes you can still get replacement hoses with the pigtail from Aerus for the '89....or at least you could a couple of years ago when I inquired about one for my '89. They do not have the trigger switch for the power nozzle however so there is no way to turn the older style power nozzles off

I was on Aerus inventory system and the hoses are no longer available, at least the product number we had used. If you have the number or know of a hose available, please let me know!!

Pigtail Hose- Not Recommended

Had to chime in here with my two cents...
I don't know a whole lot about the 89, but I do own a U.S.-spec Model L, which uses the pigtail hose. There is a major problem using that hose with the L
The power nozzle port on the canister is located so that when you plug the pigtail into it, the pigtail's plug sticks out of the canister at a right angle- totally vulnerable to getting bumped in use. It does not take many bumps before the plug pins on the pigtail plug get broken from being bent and re-straightened. Being careful helps, but only delays the inevitable
For this reason, I prefer and recommend using the non-electric hose with a separate PN power cord and a set of hose straps. That way, when the inevitable happens, you're only out about $10 for a new PN power cord, not $75 or so for a new pigtail hose
This may not apply to the 89, but it sure as hell applies to the L, and I wanted to make sure you knew, so you could check the location of the PN port on your canister, and determine if this is likely to happen.

Tanya certainly does have a beautiful Model G
My question is, how in the world did she get her cat to let her vacuum it? If I tried to vacuum my siamese cat I would lose some fingers or possibly my entire arm!

On the '89 the electrical port for the power nozzile is located on the front of the carrying handle so less likely to get bumped.
I'll have to check with Aerus here to see if the hoses are still available as I was thinking of getting one for my '89. I still use the original woven hose and it does have air leakage

I emailed Aerus about the 89 hose and got the response below
Hi Mr. Nelson
Thank you for your email below. Yes, we do carr
replacement hoses for the 89 model vacuum. Th
suggested retail cost is $109.99 plus shipping and handling of $12.95
If you wish to order one please contact me a
1-800-668-0763.
Thanks again

Even with the pigtail problem, I still prefer the integrated hose over the cord attached to the outside of the hose. As stated above, the pigtail attaches on the top of the machine at the end of the handle

Cool. I wonder if you will be able to get the hose in the original colors. Let me know if you do. I have a beautiful Z89 too, with two original woven, one electric and one non-electric. They both leak pretty badly, but with power nozzle in operation with the electric hose, it does clean really well. But for dusting and "playing" I made a hose out of light green coiled vinyl with metal ZB55 ends
Every time I use this machine I am amazed all over again at how quiet and powerful it is! It's really a dream
btw I also have the matching 25¢ bank

I am gonna to call Donna at Aerus tomorrow also and order a hose. I went to the Aerus dealer here today and was told the hoses are no longer available. And then the manager said if I wanted to pay $400 he could get me one! Then he made a phone call somewhere (presumably to a regional sales office) to inquire about a hose and was told that they were not available. I also had a feeling that this Aerus office was unscrupulous

Oh oh Gary! Good work! We're gonna want to see pictures of this hose when it arrives, cause even if it's white what a treat it would be to get a few now while we still can. Good price, all things considered and some of us are actually in Canada. :-
Using latex treated originals on all my 80 series - all with wrap-a-round cords. Don't have a pigtail one. :-

I called Aerus Canada Monday afternoon about replacement hose, and what the part/service number is so I could order one through the local branch, here it is late Tuesday afternoon and they still haven't returned the call. As I said in a previous posting, I know a franchisee, we both looked up service bulletins and product numbers on the Aerus inventory system, and got 0 for inventory. IF they do have any, it would be news to me and the franchisee.

I forgot to mention that when I was at the Aerus dealer there was an 89 in the showroom for sale....$150. When the sales manager heard I was inquiring about a hose he suggested that I buy the 89 for 'parts'. I don't know if it had a power nozzle as there wasn't one with it...just the hose and rug nozzle I think

OK guys - you should know by now that most of the guys at Aeris dont have a clue what they are talking about. There should be alot of the 89 hoses around if they know where to look - the branches in sask had a couple dozen each when it switched over to Aeris and there is very little call for them (I sold 2 in 10 years between 88 and 98). The only problem is they didnt put the correct pigtale on those. It has a straight plug like on the powerhead instead of the right angle plug. If that is the case when you get it Fred give me a yell. I have a box full of the original green pigtails. I can send you one - they arent too difficult to replace

Doug, do you have, or can you still get, maybe from above-referenced dealer, an original woven hose for the Z-89? I'd love to have a really nice hose for my set

Of the replacement pigtail hose that is currently offered in the US for the G and earlier machines. Coincidentally a perfect match for the rebuilt G in silver I have! Hoping the 89 hose matches as well as this one does.

I'm glad Donna is returning your calls, I've been waiting for a response since Monday, and here it's late Thursday evening. Am I surprised with Aerus--NOT!!!!

If you do get a hose for the 89, it will be close in color to the one of the model G, depending on when it was made. I happen to have a vinyl hose for my 89, and it's coloring is the same as the others that were made during their time.

With the Canadian dollar being almost at par with the US dollar, I would have thought the price Donna quoted you should be almost the same as what she would have quoted me. I don't know why the difference.
