I found this Kenmore Duo-Power vacuum last week at an estate sale and grabbed it because it was in such nice condition. There's barely a mark on it and it's complete with all it's tools. The brushroll has a small chunk out of the wood roller so it's rather noisy and vibrates when running but that can be replaced. It will shortly be on it's way to Terry's - happy early birthday, Terry!

And another thing!

Here's a vac I picked up today at the Starvation Army for $1.99. I'd never seen the Volta brand before - 550 watts of quiet power and made in Sweden. Does anyone know when it's from and any history? I'll play with it for a while but since I'm completely out of room, it will tag along with me to the convention in Ohio to be a raffle prize.

(sorry about the messy garage, I'm restoring a 1956 Bendix washer and I ain't got no time for cleaning when there's a washer on the bench ;-)

Here is a Hoover Model 82 Connie a friend of mine found at a thrift store a while back and dropped off for me. It's in pretty nice shape for it's age and is relatively complete. I'm going to polish it up a bit and bring it to the convention for a raffle prize.

The Kenmore is model 2395.

The IBM Personal Typewriter (with correction feature) is from an office that is moving in one of the buildings that we do. Hauling out the trash, some things don't make it to the dumpster ;-)

Kenmore

Model 2395 means its from 1973. The -95 means its one or two down from the top of the line, which was -99

Nice finds, especially the Kenmore, those are to be treasured today!

Hi Greg, you do have the knack of finding those vacs!!! I thought the rule was "Theres always space for One More""""...LOl

The Volta is the same as the Electrolux Z94 which was produced 1971 - 1974, this was the mid range model and was mums third vac, my Gran also had one, very quiet & efficient for the time, lovely regal "Windsor Blue" is the colour!!!

Oh by the way if you see me buying raffle tickets this time "Stop Me"...LOl

Cheers, Mike

Dave has that green Kenmore as well and offered it to me the other day when I was up there and I passed now I think I should probably take it because I've got the blue, the brown, the tan, the light green and quite a few of the uprights just not that particular green one LOL.

Greg, Electrolux Sweden used the VOLTA and DOMETIC names on their Euro made vacuums sold in N.America because they sold the rights to the Electrolux name to Electrolux USA & Canada

On noisy Kenmore Powernozzles....

I am fortunate to have and own a 1975 Sears Best Kenmore PowerMate canister in the same hues that the above machine has. My machine being the TOL has a two speed motor, the large Magic Filter, stores the tools inside the machine in the Tool Caddy or outside if you prefer, bag fill or "performance indicator" light.

The PowerMate has a headlight, and a four position height adjuster and beater bar brush. The model # is a model 2599. It's gorgeous, wonderful and reminds me of what Sears vacuums "used" to be, which IMHO was fabbo.

That said, the older gentleman who traded in the machine, claimed that he used the powernozzle maybe 10 times the entire time he had it. He also explained that he purchased the optional straight suction nozzle (which he never brought with), and went thru two or three bare floor tools in the time of his ownership. He had mostly bare floors and orientals... which confuses me as to why he bought the TOL.

That powernozzle, for it's underuse, yet for it's age is one of the LOUDEST powernozzles I've ever heard in over 15 years of vacuum ownership and collecting. Even their sucessor powernozzle which was lower and a shade wider was still quite obnoxious in the noise department. I have a 2899 also in two tone blue.

These Kenmores used of all things a sleeve/sleeve bearing brushroll bearing setup, and along with the FilterQueen 48 and 88 heads, takes the top taco in noise pollution....LOL Either they could not get the bearings right, or they thought that that level of noise was acceptable. When it's vacuuming carpet it's fine I suppose, but you lift it up, or set it wrong and it sounds like a buzz bomb.

I know it was written that a chunk was missing out of the roller, and yeah that can cause problems. However, my situation has an almost perfect roller, and it still sounds awful.

It's a gorgeous machine tho. I plan to bring my 75 Sears Best Kenmore to North Canton in August.

what made them loud was

worn agitator mountings. Try cushioning/securing the ends of the agitator with some foam tape...it should quiet it down considerably

Dangg.......WHAT A SWEET IDEA!!!!!!

Jeff your the best. After all these years of having the 2899, and now the 2599, I figured that it was just a design flaw.

What an excellent idea... I'm going to try that ASAP....

Especially the 82 Connie. I have one just like it that belonged to my Grandmother. It's in great shape except that the hose is permanently stretched and the tool caddy is a bit worn.
