I gave my best friend a Kirby Classic III about 5 years ago and he moved into a new townhome recently. He vacuumed his entire place from top to bottom with a "clean" empty bag... this is what he pulled up in one vacuuming....

Not knocking Kirby they are great

but if it was new carpet
they shed
they can shed alot
I've taken 3 or 4X that much from new carpet in just a small apt.

I took the D50's around yesterday for a spin
haven't used them in least month

Been using the Eureka
All four together did not pick up hardly any lint just a little sand & dust of less than about an inch on the paper.

The Eureka is a monster
The suction is phenominal
so they didn't leave much for the kirbys to get

If it was used carpet
who knows what the last residents used.

My Grandma used her DS50 as a canister for years with low pile
carpet, when they had carpet professional cleaned
the guy cleaning the carpet was amazed! His words were
"You Must have One Hell of a Vacuum Cleaner"
because there is no dirt in the water!

Rob:

Your grandma evidently knew the secret to getting the most out of her fine vacuum cleaner:

Get behind it and push!

I have seen so many people spend beaucoup bucks on Kirbys, TriStars, Air-Ways, Rainbows, you name it. And a lot of them ended up with houses no cleaner than before, because they didn't want to expend the energy necessary to use the damned thing, as if parting with so much money was going to make the house vacuum itself.

Having a fine vac is a wonderful thing, and I'd be the very last to disparage them, particularly since I own a TriStar. But you'd be amazed what a nice job even a cheap vac can do if you give it regular workouts.
