Here's one of the surprises that ge1969 sent me for the cost of mailing. Even though he didn't ruin the surprise, I knew this was coming. I bought bags for it two weeks ago in anticipation of its arrival. He included some also. It's Serial #115740, and has the Ultraflex hose. It works very well too. He is sending an incorrect (according to him) rug tool, as he did not have it when he sent out the package. I couldn't be more thrilled!

Rating plate

The serial number dates it to April 1970

I've got a really nice turquoise Constellation. Somewhere around here I have a bunch of photos of it but can't seem to find them. Will keep looking. Meanwhile, here's another photo of my Orange Beauty!

charles, did that constellation have a 3-tool storage carrier in the
back? It would have two holes in the rim of the bottom plate
where 2 metal rods would go and then clip into a clip on the wall of
the bottom can!
Just wondering there was one in the family between 1960/65.
Thanks
Norm

Yay.. and I've got its triplet, it's the one I use almost everyday sucking up all the doghair on the tile in the Lido Lounge and Laundry

The 858 is a nice machine, and the last Constellation made, until they brought them back a couple years ago. I've got one too. I don't use mine everyday, but I do use it frequently and it's the one I usually take with me to clean at the museum where I volunteer. Mine belonged to my Mother, and I also have a model 82 that belonged to my Grandmother. Enjoy,
Jeff

Thanks Jeff, Constellation is a word that came out of my mouth frequently during the '50s, I think I may have seen exactly one in a store, and pictures in catalogues. This is the first one I have ever put my hands on. What year was the last old Connie produced?

I think the original Connies (the 858) were last produced in 1975 or 76. They had stopped making them around 1971 or 72 but brought them back a few more years due to popular demand. Jeff Parker or Tom Anderson could give you more accurate information on that.

That's a good bet Jeff, also if the others could expound upon that.

Excellent stuff Alan, Connies are still pretty capable machines!

They're also the best way to indoctrinate non-collector friends, people find them fascinating, I always have to demo mine for them...

They were built until much later in the UK too - I believe the last ones here were built in 1982, and came with plastic extension tubes with the ring lock fasteners.

Have fun with it!

Si

Thanks Si, I will. I love the plastic tubes with the ring lock fasteners, for that matter, I love all the Hoover attatchments hose types, and tubes (wands) from the '50s through the '80s.

I always liked vacuum cleaners, but never seriously collected them until last year. I wonder what the 1958 Forecast Colors were?
