Yes, I'm sure that Concept 1 commercial is indeed a rarity. Thanks for posting. Was there ever a commercial version of its predecessor, the Dial-A-Matic?

Wow!

All of these Hoover Concepts are very cool! The commercial one is extremely interesting. What year is it?

Whoops!

Stupid me! I didn't even read about the commercial one. It says the year right above the picture.

Commercial Concept

Thanks for all the nice words... Its one of the rarer cleaners I have, and one I had to almost totally reconstruct when I got it because it was pretty well trashed. Luckily the cord and bag and outside were ok, but the motor, tranny and agitator were ruined.
I rebuilt it using the Elite style brush roll and bottom plate, and probably used 2 other machines for internal parts. Today it runs quite nice, but the drive is kinda sluggish, probably from the worn clutch pivot.
Maybe I'll do a YOUTUBE video of it...

Please!

I would love to see a video of the Commercial Hoover Concept! Please make one!

I noticed the bag is slightly different from the normal Hoover Concepts. Does it still use style "A" bags?

Pete that PowerMax is great. How long did Hoover make the PowerMax line? I remember seeing them in the Service Merchandise catalog when i was younger and always liked them. They are a very sharp looking machine. How well do they clean?

The power max cleanes as well as a concept. infact doesn't it use a concept motor? I remember them when they were new even though I was a tot. God that was almost 20 years ago. I love the power max. I even like the later called the power drive. It's the one that looks like a concept and an elite crossed and birthed the powerdrive.

PowerMax & PowerDrive

The Powermax series came out in January 1992, it was essentially a Concept One with onboard tools(and wimpy tool suction)
I had one of the maroon ones brand new, and absolutely hated it. It was clumsy, heavy, awkward, and ear-splittingly loud!

The PowerMax series initially used the steel agitator(in 2 and 4 brush variations) and then later had a plastique Elite style brush roller.

The Powerdrive series came out in 1994, and as mention was kinda what you'd expect to get if you crossed and Elite and a Concept One. The PD series used a variation on the Elite motor, and was considerably quieter that the Powermax before. I like the PD cleaners better, but the handle is too short, and they are kinda top heavy. A counter-weight spring for the handle(such as on the DAM) would have been nice.
New Powerdrives can still be found on ebay!
The PD series was replaced in 1998 by the Self Propelled Windtunnel.

I bought that black PowerMax new at Costco and yes it must have been around 1992, just prior to us moving from our house in the city to the country in 93 because I do remember using it in the city house. It is extremely loud, bareable when you set the speed at low and it is rather clumsy. I don't use it often anymore, it's a pain to carry up and down stairs but it probably is the absolute best upright vacuum for actual cleaning that I've ever used when it comes to all the dog hair etc we have here.

I have a Hoover Concept U3103 and a Hoover PowerMax U3725-930.
Both of my Hoovers have the steel 4 brush Quadraflex agitator.
I am looking for a Hoover PowerDrive U6311-930.

Jeff,

That Hoover Concept is very cool looking! I love the black and orange stripes on the bag.

Alan, I have the twin to your Concept. I love it except it has a small hole worn in the bag.

Pete, I also Have the Power Max, mine is the burgandy one from April 1992. It's tools have never been used only thing is I do not have a hose for it and can't find one. Anyone able to help me locate a hose to fit my power max. I also thing it is kind of akward to steer and only use it in the gameroom downstairs where I dont vacuum as often. Great vacuum though.

Jeff,
i love your Montgomery Wards version of the concept. Nicer looking than JC Penny's Version.

Ahhhh!

Now I understand! He meant "Montgonery Wards" and not "Monkey Wards."
