Have had a bit of dry streak lately, hadn't found anything interesting to pick up but that changed the other day when I found this Hoover 28 at a local goodwill store. I can't believe how good of shape it's in, especially considering it's age. Brought it home, cleaned it up a bit and it fired right up. Looks to have a replacement cord on it, not sure if the bag is the original one or not.
A few questions...
Are their particular belts to use or will regular Hoover round belts work?
Are their particular brush strips as well or will ones from the later convertibles fit?
Any other preventative maintenance I should do...it does sound and run just fine?
I showed my Grandma and she wanted to know how much these sold for when they were new?

Thanks for looking!
Cameron

I'm sorry, I can't answer any of your questions.
But I just wanted to say, nice find!
And I'm not too proud to admit; the picture of it next to the newer Wind Tunnel made me tear up a little bit.
I don't know why. It just hit me in the feels.

Yowsa...

That 28 is in great condition! Someone really took good care of it. Yes, the cord is a replacement, but ask around, someone might have an original available. The bag is a replacement, but genuine Hoover. The 28 is from the 40's, and someone on here will know the production years.

Nice purchase! It's always fun finding an early cleaner at a thrift store!

Wow very nice indeed...

I can't tell you when yours was made,I found a model 27 in my friends basement and was told that it was the first post WW2 model to be released. I know you'll have an answer soon from a member. I love the sound of the motor while it's winding up when you start it. Does your head light have a lense, and if so, is it glass or plastic? I also have the red Windtunnel like yours (which I really like) parked next to the #27 in the closet.Lol.Vintage Anything gets snapped up quickly here in the S.F. Bay Area, a find like yours, rare. Congrats!

Nice 28!

Always was one of my favorite Hoovers. They were made from 1946 to 1950, when they were replaced by the model 29.

Absolutely true.

Later, they were made as a "commercial vacuum". Built like a tank, there also was a "handisac adaptation, if one desired.
A real WORKHORSE.
