After considering it for weeks I finally bought the Kirby 516 . Took it mostly apart everything seems good cleaned it all up and then threw my legend 2 bag and emptor on it and it seems to work great ! You can see the picture with the bag I was wondering is anyone know is this a replacement bag for it or is it the actual original bag? I plan on trying out that little Odor eliminator thing where you put oil’s or something in for hoping it works as designed . A replacement middle rod on the handle is orders and it already has a four row brush, just need a light. I broke an original light bulb trying to put it in...going to go for LED now when I can find one. I think that Legend 2 bag looks good on it , do ya think the Heritage one is even better? I plan on keeping the original emptor and getting a replacement bag for occasional use( see massive fading)

Looks to have classic III front wheels w/extension spacers, a replaces safety switch, and Dan replaced ( can see the sealing residue on the case but I’m betting it was done a long time ago...it’s not the off white Amoled or whatever , fan.

I think your bag has been faded severely on the back side of it, but if there is a little tag somewhere on it that says copyright 1981, it's a replacement. I think I have a 500 series of some unknown model, and it has the same bag but mine is more of a pink-ish color.

the models....

516-561 all basically had the same bag. The base material is kind of colored like denim, and has the large Kirby logo in the middle. I have been told in the past that there were a few minute differences. Here is what it looked like.

Is the metal spindle worn down?

I once had a Hoover Junior (flat belt). When new, the belt spindle was the same diameter through its entire length. But after a few years of almost daily usage, the spindle wore away quite dramatically, leaving a thinner diameter where the belt rode. The end of the spindle was untouched by the belt path, and therefore unworn.
