At work today (Goodwill), I found a special treat for fans of Dirt Devil and Royal vacuums. We were going to throw it away, but I snuck it home.

I found some vintage paperwork from the early 90's (1990-1991 to be exact) of Dirt Devil and Royal vacuums. The first paper I found was a "Handy Quick Parts Mailer." It's a mail-in order form that allowed customers to buy parts and accessories for their vacuums. They even had Dirt Devil-branded sportswear for purchase! It has illustrations showing each accessory, along with the sportswear.

The second paper was a registration form from May of 1991. If a customer registered, they would be entered in quarterly sweepstakes. I'm not sure what the rules were back then.

Lastly, there was a dual brochure; one side was advertising Royal all-metal uprights and hand vacs. The other side had Dirt Devil vacuums.

I thought it was cool to see these vintage brochures show up at work!

So the power pak was out as early as 91? Wow when did it debut?

I think these would have came in the boxes of hand vacs. I swear I saw one recently in a NIB hand vac box but I couldn't be sure, it was all crumpled and I didn't look that far in.

Great save!
I must add, I think it's fantastic that you thought to save that for someone who'd really want that stuff. It shows great consideration.

Here's My 1990 Dirt Devil Handy Parts Mailer

This one is dated January 1990.

This was packaged inside my Grandma's 1990 Dirt Devil 103 Hand Vacuum that she bought on June 11, 1990 according to its receipt. Also included here is the same "You Deserve a Royal" brochure (but is older) which, on the back, features the then-current Dirt Devil lineup (hand vacuum, Broom Vac and Can Vac). The disposable paper bag adapter was a new feature for the hand vacs in 1990.

The ugly truth...

I found out that I did something I'm not really supposed to do at Goodwill. It is against the rules to take anything home that is donated. I got in trouble with the manager for doing so; I told him the truth, and he took it as a lesson learned.

While this paperwork was cool to see and save, I won't bother doing it next time, as to avoid getting fired.

Wow you got in trouble for taking a pamphlet 2 weeks after doing it? Ridiculous. I can guarantee you that those slips of paper make no difference to anyone whether you put it in your pocket or its wadded up and pitched in the trash. They can't sell it either way as it has no value, so it means nothing to them. It would be like asking to have that Big Mac box someone left on the counter. lol
