I remember the church I went to before, had a few vacuums. Most of them were Bissell Powerforces, a few purple bagless BOL and a black that was a little higher end. I used the purple Powerforces a few times and I actually liked them, lightweight, easy to push and not too loud. The only issue is the filters were a pain to clean. The last one of these I remember them getting was a bagged black BOL Powerforce, I guess they got tired of cleaning all those filters and got the idea a lot of us learned, bagged is easier!
Other than that, there was a green Kenmore Progressive canister, and also a Kirby G6. I guess some people preferred canisters and some Kirbys, so they brought those machines to use. If it were me I would have gotten Sanitaire uprights, easy to clean around and under pews and F&G bags hold a lot and cheap. Usually if it was my turn to vacuum, I bring a canister with a long hose and cord. Easier to clean under the pews with it, just leave it at the end of the aisle and work your way down. But then you had to keep backing out of each aisle and move canister to the next one. One lady told me she preferred to use a canister to clean it too. |

About six years ago, when I was still on the vestry at church, a request came in from the altar guild for a lightweight vacuum cleaner with onboard attachments to use to touch up around the altar area in preparation for Sunday services. I saved the parish the cost by giving them a Dirt Devil Featherlite that I'd rescued from a dumpster and refurbished. I noticed recently that it had disappeared from the sacristy, where it had been parked. I don't know what happened, but at least they got several years of good use out of it.

Personally I would recommend a windsor or a Sebo church environment.
I would consider the sanitaire at the bare minimum. But usually nobody in a church will do the required maintenance and belt changes and being direct air you can Bank on that fan breaking. the low maintenance of a windsor and ease-of-use will serve you well in a church. if you're on a tight budget I would recommend a Hoover hushtone+ with the" in telebelt" CLICK HERE TO GO TO vacuumdevil's LINK |
