Compact vs TriStar

Hey Antoine,

Those are such unusual little vacuums. I had never even heard of them until I discovered this site about a year ago.

The only one I've ever seen in person was branded TriStar.
Are they made by the same company? It looked identical, except it was a sort of grey or silver hammertone finish, with a white bumper.

It was at our local Savers store for, I believe, $29.99.
All it had with it was the hose, wands, and a metal floor nozzle.

Barry

Those green C-8 Compact cleaners with turbine nozzles were available some years ago on eBay, new in the box, for I believe $100. I bought one at the time, as did many collectors. I think there were at least 20 available at the time. There were also a couple yellow C-8's with the power nozzle that were also available. I know many people (collectors) who bought one at that time.

I put a modern high efficiency Lamb motor in mine, because the motor that came with it wasn't powerful enough to spin the turbine head under my carpet. The high efficiency motor did the trick.

Yes Compact and Tri-Star are made by the same company. They changed the name to Tristar is the very early 80's.
The Tri-Star you are talking about would be either a CXL or a DXL made between 1992ish to about 1998ish

modern high efficiency Lamb motor

Tom,
Do you happen to remember the part # or model # of this motor? I've got a DXL that needs a stronger motor. Let me know. Thanks!

I got the motor from a Kenmore Whispertone 4.5 hp. They all used the largest, most powerful Lamb motor. It fits perfectly into the C-8 as they no longer had a motor cap (cover) like the previous models did.

Perfect! I’ve already got one!

Did you make any modifications? My motor is from the Whispertone, circa 1990’s. I remember them being slightly longer.
