The Electrolux of my childhood, the very first Electrolux I saw or used! Not one that looks just like it, but the very machine I remember! It lived what is now the majority of its life in a small church in a small town in SW Nebraska, and last summer one of my cousins told me they had a vacuum for me! It took a whole year to get back out there, but this last weekend I was out there and made to to pick it up!!

Nice! It should look great after a spa treatment.

Excellent! I ***LOVE*** this story!

I have a similar story with a Model E that I knew as a child but never saw again when we moved from that area of Virginia when I was four years old. Many years later I came to find the person who had that Electrolux and who remembered me! It now takes pride of place in my office.

Amazing it's survived that long, AND you were reunited with it! Not many people can make that claim!

My 1205 story...

human's profile picture
In about 1980, when I was about 17, my dad grabbed a 1205 that the neighbors had put out by the curb. It never had a power nozzle and the woven, non-electric hose leaked like a sieve, but for whatever reason, I always liked that thing. It stayed around the house and got a modest amount of use for many years, but it disappeared when my parents moved in 1997. I'd always assumed it was one of the many things they had donated or tossed and I thought little more of it over the years until the summer of 2016 when my parents decided to move to a retirement community and I found it while cleaning out the attic.

It was filthy and the handle was broken but I figured it was worth having for parts, if nothing else. When I got it home and plugged it in, I found it ran great; in fact, when I tested it against my other 1205 (simple side-by-side hand test with no hose attached) I found they worked equally well, so I decided to clean it up, replace the broken handle and officially add it to the collection. In the process, it got an electrified hose and power nozzle hooked up to it for the first time in its almost 50-year existence.

I have some videos of this thing before during and after the treatment, it’s running very well now, and I’ve used it twice so far!

Charlie, I do have a few confusions about these things... I have two 1205s like this one, both identical. Both have the non-telescope wand and this hose with the PN-1. I also have the version with the light blue front panel and the telescopic wand and plastic handle, but it has no plug under the inlet and the hose is direct connect. Were these later in the run of that variation? I also have a textured body one with the PN-2, but it is as you describe on your page.

The earliest 1205's had the power outlet under the hose connector in addition to the direct connect power connections incorporated into the hose coupling. The separate power outlet was deleted in the second run but the lighter teal front was retained for a short while before being replaced with the darker teal front. These first three variants had smooth metal bodies. The textured metal bodies came later. The last variant, of course, was the golden anniversary model with its gaudy gold color scheme and much improved handle design. I'm not sure where the PN2 came into the picture but definitely by the time of the textured bodies.

I've only really seen the PN2 on the textured body 1205, I've always been under the impression all the smooth body machines with with a PN1

OMG. thats the EXACT vacuum I recall in my early childhood!!! I've wanted to know what model it was as well, now I KNOW...1205. very very cool!!!! thanks for posting. I"d be sorely tempted to pick up one of those for a steal....if I came across it for purely nostalgic purposes

fyi. I'm in Colorado Springs...if you ever want to go 'hunting' for this stuff....or show off your collection...or talk about this vacuum obsession we all have....I'll come up there sometime.
