I'm considering going to look at this Royal to buy....I recall reading on this forum someone who listed many of the model differences but haven't found it again. I own Kirby's so this would be my first Royal, so I"m not sure yet.

Kelton,

That is a model 4000 Classic you found! This one was produced from 1995 to 2000.

ben, okay so

does that mean that it has a 'drop in motor'? I"ve read something about that...can't recall it....trying to determine if its a good buy for home use. I was leaning towards the 5-8amp motors as I heard the 9-10's are quite loud. Any insights you could offer?

Kelton,

Yes it does... and yes, these 8.7-to-10 amp motors are also called "screamer" motors!

It should be great for cleaning around.

An equivalent Classic, with the non-drop-in motor, would be model 9005 (6 amp, w/o BPI light), 9089 (6 amp, w/BPI light) or the 9700 (7 amp, w/BPI light).

Kelton,

Yes, in my opinion... though, the white 40-foot-long cord I see on what appears to be a model 886 or 887 is not original (it actually first had a 35-foot-long cord in the same color as the rest of the trim). The white cord actually came from a 1987-88 model 889, 992, 993, 8000 or 9000.

ben is this the lower amp model vs the red one I first posted? The red one is a package deal with a Kirby Sanitronic 80 accessories & box that I really want....but...

Well, she sure cleaned up nicely!!! washed the bag and cleaned/blew everything out, greased the wheels etc. This thing. moves some air! I feel it bouncing off the floor ( I suppose) air that is....loud too like others have written about. I have many Kirby's so this contrast to lighter and even more maneuverable than even my DS80 Kirby from 1969! I put one of the extra paper bags style B I believe on it, still hoping to hear an answer to my question of whether a Kirby Micro Magic hepa bag would work on it nicely.
