So today I decided to stop at an estate sale and a few thrift shops.

First thrift shop I went to I saw a Vax. I don't think I've ever seen one of these before, are they rare here in the US? Seemed to be in great shape, there was a box with it with some, possibly all attachments and the owners manual. They wanted $25. If I had space I would have thought of getting it because it seems to be an unusual machine. But I just got that Cleanmore the other week.

Then I stopped at Habitat. I'd actually gone Thursday but figured to pass the time I'd just go and see if anything came in since. I didn't see anything new at first vacuum wise - there's a Eureka Boss hard body upright, a Bissell Powerforce bagless and a Bissell Powersteamer canister that's missing the hose. Recently a Hoover Concept One came in but I wasn't really interested in any of these.

But then away from those vacuums, two vacuums happened to catch my eye I had walked right by before. One was a Bissell bagless and the other was a Kenmore Progressive with Direct Drive and Inteliclean. Actually the same model from Craigslist ad I just posted in the Super Market section.

I thought "Hmm, you know I've always kind of wanted one of these in the bagged version," as I walked toward it. Then I thought, "I bet it's missing most of the attachments," but they were all still in their spots. Then I thought "I bet they want like $30 for it." Looked at the price tag and it was $10 and just tested and put out yesterday. Looked inside and a brand new HEPA cloth bag, plugged it in and everything seemed to work. Decided to make an impulse purchase and before I knew it I had taken it downstairs and paid.

I can't believe I got one of these so cheap. There was one there in the past but it was $25 or $35 I forgot. I can't believe it's so complete too. If anything, it might be missing the floor brush but I'm not sure if these came with one or if it was an option. But all of the on board tools are there. It seems to have been taken care of, it has a few scratches but nothing major. Just needs a light cleaning. If anything else it just needs a new HEPA filter probably.

I'll post photos tomorrow after I get it cleaned.

And hopefully then someone can tell me the age. It's a teal color, I seem to remember a purple too. A friend of mine had a purple that was basically the same with the touchpad controls, but it was bagless. I liked it but wanted a bagged one because IIRC, this bagless setup had the filter in the bin which I disliked. I used to use it when I washed her windows to vacuum the screens. She had said hers had a floor attachment but I just shut the brush off to vacuum the floor afterwards.

I've definitely had some good vacuum finds with the Cleanmore and now this Progressive. I wouldn't say it's a dream machine like the Cleanmore, but it was one I wouldn't mind having for sure.

Which Vax was it?

There were two of them that were sold in the US called the X3 and the X5. It was also sold under Dirt Devil known as the "i". They weren't sold for very long so they are definitely uncommon to come by.

Not the upright Vax, but the older carpet cleaner version that's black/orange.
