Hello All,
Since Orecks are so simple I'm almost too embarrassed to ask, but, how do I replace the fan and fan case in an Oreck XL? I ran into three problems. 1. The fan case will not release from the stamped steel disk which sits between the fan and motor. It appears that the fan must first be taken off the motor shaft, then the whole assembly of fan, fan case, and steel disk gets disassembled to remove the fan. Is it possible to release the fan case from the steel disk without removing the fan from the motor shaft first? 2. How do I lock the fan in order to remove it from the motor shaft if the fan case is still installed? Usually, when I change vacuum fans I grasp the fan by hand and then loosen the nut. I cannot do this if the fan case is still there, and I hate to grip the belt pulley with vice grips. 3. Once the fan nut is off, how do I slip the fan off the motor shaft? I was working on a vacuum with a cracked fan case which split apart enough to get it off the metal disk. After that, I gripped the fan by hand and was able to remove the fan nut. However, then it seemed the fan would not slip off the motor shaft! No amount of tugging, twisting, or prying could get the stubborn thing off! Please help. |
