A friend of mine in the Vacuum Business referred me to a longtime shop in the area, to pick through. After a nice, long visit with the owner, he started filling up bins with things for me to "Haul outta this place!"

Starting off, we have a machine I've wanted for some time, a Hoover 913. This one needs a total overhaul. That will be a project after work someday soon.

Hoover Plastibase...This one is in nice shape. Ill probably leave it up at my Grandmothers as we need a decent vacuum there.

Hoover portable...matches the 1060. This one can use some love...

Lots of old parts! Sad that Sears has crumbled to nothing now. I've been thrifting a lot, and I've got an entire 2 bins full of bags that I've collected just since January that I only paid $1 a piece on average for. Even found some Endust brand bags, never even knew they made those. My local Menard's hardware store also has Kirby paper bags for about $2.80 each.

Also is that a lineman's phone in the background?

That one was called a "benchsitter", made to sit atop a workbench. I have two Western Electric Linemens phones that I use for telephone repair. My grandfather gave them to me, he worked for Bell for over 40 years.

Great scores

especially the brush inserts; I know those aren't particularly easy to find.

Love that orange/white Convertible, I need one of those for my collection.

Hey Andy,

That Portable is the same color as the one I remember from childhood!

I scored a turquoisey colored one at a thrift store a couple of weeks ago for $10.

That's the one that we were discussing exhaust filters for. I still need to get to the Depot for some HVAC filter material.

Enjoy the new additions!

Barry

I like that Convertible. I think that's the same model I got from the trash as a kid, I wish I had kept it. I was just too afraid to plug it in, I bet it ran like a top still. Anymore I don't see Convertibles anywhere.

Wow, a 913! I keep forgetting those were available here in the USA. I'd love to have one.

You imply that your 913 is somehow in poor condition, but hey, it sure looks good from here! I suppose the only disappointment could be holes in the bag.

Keep an eye for refurb photos. The bag is full of holes, and the brushroll and motor are in need of plenty of TLC. It does look to have been taken care of though...

Portable

What sort of issues does your Portable have?

I just gave my thrift store find Portable its first real workout since I got it.
Did the whole first floor with it.
Not a single issue!
No funny sounds, didn't get overheated, nothing.
I think it's a keeper!

Has some bearing noise. Needs a good bath and both filters need to be replaced. Hose has a small tear that I will repair
