Hi,

I'd like to know if the hoses for the Lux Legacy and Lux Guardian are interchangeable with the hand grips; that is, will the LL hose's electrical connections accommodate the LG's hand grip's extra suction control switch?

Additionally, are all the electric hoses for Aerus's electric wand hoses interchangeable with all the hand grips from the Renaissance-era to the Lux Guardian-era? I'm taking for granted that the Lux Guardian Ultra and Lux Guardian Platinum's hoses are different; correct me if I'm wrong.

Question #1

I assume here that you're talking about the Lux Guardian aka the Renaissance machines. I think of all of those style vacuums as Renaissance vacs even though they later became Epic 8000s and Guardians. To the best of my knowledge, you cannot put a Renaissance/Epic 8000/Guardian hand grip on a Legacy and have the grip do anything for the Legacy. Like most of Aerus's classic machines (and the new Guardian Plantinum), the Legacy canister does not communicate 2-way with the hose. It simply provides power to the hose. Therefore, a Guardian hand grip would not in any way control the suction settings on a Legacy. Changing out the hand grip would be a large undertaking anyways, and the Guardian of course will not plug into a Legacy as-is. I would imagine the hose itself could be incompatible as well since the Renaissance hose has extra wires for the handle controls.

As for your second question... it's a little complicated.

Renaissance/Epic 8000/Guardian hoses and grips are simply not compatible with any other Aerus/Electrolux product. A Renaissance grip will not control a Legacy's motor, and a Legacy hose obviously will do nothing for a Renaissance. All other plastic body (2100 style) canisters can swap hoses and accessories so long as the correct accessories go with the same hose (metal wand accessories vs plastic wand accessories vs Guardian Ultra accessories... more on that in a moment). I'm certain you can swap hoses and grips on the 2100/Legacy machines, I'm less certain what can be swapped between a Renaissance, an Epic 8000, and an original Guardian. I *think* they can swap parts among themselves, but I'm not 100%.

As for the Guardian Ultra and Platinum...

The Guardian Ultra hose is identical to the Legacy hose until you get the handle, wands, and accessory connections. If you have both a Guardian Ultra and a Legacy (or anything back to the first plastic-body 2100), you can swap hoses and accessories so long as you swap the entire set. They have the same hose connection at the canister and electrical connections, but the Ultra has a different handle tip and accessories, presumably to keep people from buying used accessories for their new vacuum.

The Guardian Platinum uses the same handle, wands and accessories as the Guardian Ultra, but the hose connection at the canister is obviously different so that it works with the EU models. So, a GP hose cannot attach to any other Aerus/Electrolux canister, but it can connect to Ultra wands and accessories. The Ultra hose can attach to any plastic body Aerus/Electrolux canister, but it must use its own accessories (or Platinum accessories) since it has a unique wand tip.

Does that help at all? It sounds like you basically want a different handle for your Renaissance-generation machine. I don't think it's possible. At best, you'd lose all functionality of the hose controls. At worst, it's possible the machine wouldn't even turn on, but I'm not sure.
