I have had 5 Thunders in the garage for a while. Last month I picked up another at the local thrift and decided yesterday to restore it. Motor was great but the cord had damage. Naturally it was dusty.

I pulled one of the parts vacs to remove the cyclone cylinder because mine was damaged...brittle. Both were silver plastic and pretty much brittle.

I ended up stripping them both down because the new one had a broken part to the pick up handle.

Started on the third to find it has a black cyclone cylinder which is in very good shape and solid. (Replacement?).

Replaced the cord from parts bin and started the clean up. Several thick clogs later. I washed some parts which means I had to wait for them to dry this morning. This afternoon I reassembled everything except to put on the outer cylinder. One more wipe down and plastic polish, it will be ready.

I want to wait for a day or so make sure everything is dry before I start it up.

I have always liked the heavy-duty cleaning and how they restored the nap on my carpets.

Hi folks...

I was wondering if my posts are being viewed? I ask because I seldom get any responses even when I ask questions.

Are the post boring or is there something else going on?

Don't feel bad.

I'm guessing you're not alone.

I've only been on here for about a year, and haven't posted a lot, but it seems to be kind of hit or miss.

I've posted things that generate a lot of responses and conversation.

And other times, I feel like I said something wrong and offended everyone.

My post just sits there; sadly making its way farther and farther down the thread. 🙁

I can't comment on your Fantoms, because I know even less about them than I do about the machines that I own. Sorry.

I see in your profile that you have three Epic 6500s.

I do as well! Plus one Ambassador III.

There must be some Fantom fans on this site.

Hello? Bueller? Bueller?

Barry

Thanks Barry.....

I appreciate you responding. like you stated, perhaps I offended some members. If that is true, I hope they feel free to let me know privately via my email address. I will respect their feelings.

As for the vacuums, I need to update my profile. I have only one Epic 6500 now. When I run out of space, I have to sell or donate to thrift's that benefit causes I like. There are of course, some vacuums I will not part with.

Sunbeams, Singers, Eurekas...all canisters.

Thanks again,
Garry

I respect everyones tastes

In what they collect,on the other hand im very opinionated, so I try to balance the two, personally, if its something I remember being sold, I don't as a rule collect it, I like mostly pre 1970 stuff and although I have a good number of uprights, my favorite machines are straight suction canisters and tanks,

Part of the reason may be because this thread belongs in the "Contemporary" forum. People with an interest in Fantoms would more than likely look in there for threads about them.

I agree with the above, it's probably because it's posted in the vintage section. Even though the machines may technically be vintage, it would get more interest in contemporary.

That's awesome though btw, I used to have a Thunder and it really was a great cleaner. I'd love to find another one in good shape, mine wasn't the nicest looking. I also had a Lightning once upon a time, that thing was just as good of a cleaner. Both were much better at cleaning carpet than any Dyson I've ever used.
