Look at that Universal and you will see where the Anser came from!

The floor polisher shown in the advertisement was manufactured by Shetland, in various colors. I've had -- or seen -- chrome (paint), dark green, maroon, turquoise, pink, canary yellow, chocolate brown, and black. I imagine there were other colors as well.

When I was around six years old we went to visit some family friends. In the kitchen there was a tall box with the illustration of a floor polisher on it. I asked and asked and ASKED to see it and the lady of the house finally let me.

She slid it out of the box -- it was a pink Shetland -- then of course I wanted to run it. I plugged it in and turned it on without lowering the handle. The handle jerked out of my hand and whirled around like crazy, then banged onto the floor where it continued running. The handle smacked against a leg of the kitchen table and got wedged against it, which finally stopped the machine from running amok.

The lady ran over and pulled out the plug and gave me a stern lecture as she wrapped the cord on the handle and put the polisher back in the box. Luckily my parents were in the front room and didn't know what had happened, otherwise I would have gotten a good pants-warming, probably right there on the spot! The lady was nice enough not to tattle on me!!

In my defense, it wasn't totally my fault -- the switch should have had a safety mechanism that prevented the motor from running until the handle was tilted down, and also to shut it off if the handle hit the floor!!!
