I just bought a Kirby Classic 3 that works great but the plastic piece on the hose is broke, so I can use the hose attachment. Is there a way to remove the safety switch? Or just buy a new hose? Also the bag attachment has been upgraded to a bag, I think I want the original one back. Any thoughts would be great, thanks.

Karl,

Your best bet would be to find a replacement red hose (223676S) and a speed switch (134380).

Karl, are you sure the leg of the hose is broken, on the Classic III the part that pushes the speed switch down is actually one of the legs that hod the hose onto the machine. You sort of have to put the plastic legs on the bar and slightly rotate the coupler to the right to depress the switch as you are locking the locking nut that holds it on the machine. Good luck. Do Not try to by pass the switch, it is a multi speed switch and if you cross the wrong wires you will burn out the motor.

Yes, I'm sure it's broken. The right leg is broke off. So I guess I'll look for a new hose.

Ben, why should I get a new switch? Thanks for the information guys.

Karl,

I made the other suggestion in case that was the problem with your Classic III rather than with your hose.

Here's a decent-looking hose for your machine:

Karl,

You can still find an original Sani Emtor for your Classic III if you look hard enough on eBay and other places... good luck!

Since I see the handle fork has the cord hooks facing where the toe touch control is, your Classic III is a 1978 or 1979 model.

The version of the tattersall cloth bag in the picture below is what you want for your Classic III.
