Hey
I tore apart and put back together 3 times my first d80 and a second twice. Recently i got 4 roll brush roll and used on d80 1. I just finished putting new bearings greasing etc. I put a newer belt like a dumb @ce. It spun the bearings. I rebuild both again to smallest detail. Carbon brush holder copper piece came loose and was stuck on Armature.
I got nee brush holders for both vacuums. I put armature on drill straightened fan on Armiture. I use commuter stone and sanded down rough areas.
Today i got all new parts installed on both vacuums. Long story short armature is shot. It fried commuter part of armature. I just wanted to cry. My favorite vacuum is fried. .
I have bag conversion assembly for d80 wide wheels etc.
I pulled my parts manual getting part numbers for field coil and armature. Im not sure which of my Armiture and field coils.
I called Kent oyler he advised you have to have matching coil and armature. He brought up ge used to make d80 armature was made by general electric and later they had a falling out so kirby had to change design so it didn't want to infringe patent so they made newer version.
I found a armature and coil on ebay. I need 1 more armature and coil.
I also may have to order power switch.
Coil 103967 armature 114967.
So if anybody has armature and coil in good shape im looking for one.
Now im green with no envy.
Thanks for listening to my sob story.

I ordered a new armature and coil for $40 on ebay and bought entire vacuum for $52 from beaverton oregon. Im not messing with mismatched parts on my d80. I also got new bearing plate with bearings. I have basically everything brand new except for the metal fan which 1 is NOS and 1 used with no chips. I got new sashers for bottom carbon brushes. I also will run new armature on commuter cleaner. The machine will basically be brand new. I have a 500505 4 row brush roll. I am building 2 vacuums. Im putting my bag assembly on daily driver with green wide wheels and led light. I may tap off d50 headlight put on d80 or figure a Way to cut out make a d80 version of logo with green glass i dunno i have lots of ideas so you never know.
I will polish everything up before i get parts. I can buff out in a couple hours. I was waiting until rebuild was complete but i have a few days so might as well.
I dunno light assembly use dremmel and roto bit draw on lines cut out sand so no sharp edgds maybe put lexan glass with a something like a stickerfigure how to make glass green.
Well heres to crazy ideas and d80.
