I was at Target yesterday and I saw two models of the Dyson V10 and it was NOT simply a difference in the cyclone body colors or attachments included between the two. These two new V10’s had different sized Dirt Bins and one has a bin that’s visibly Shorter (Motorhead Model) than the other. Also, on the base model Motorhead, you do NOT get the same Floor Cleaner head.. you get a Direct Drive head with the Motorhead but with all the other models you get the Torque Drive Cleaner Head with the slide adjustment lever on the front.

So I looked online at Dyson.com and I had missed this initially, but indeed the V10 Motorhead, or Dyson’s base model, lowest priced V10 has only a 0.14 gallon dirt bin, where all the other models have a larger 0.2 gallon bin. As well as it comes with only the Direct Drive Brushroll Head.

My question is this... WHY did Dyson do this?? I know it can’t be to justify the price being $100 dollars cheaper, as the models all jump up by $100 price range. Also, it makes very little difference in the weight of the vacuum. 5.5lbs vs 5.9lbs. And I don’t see how the tiny Length difference of 48.85 inches vs. 49.2 inches is a factor either. (Smaller dimensions is the Motorhead)

I guess I’m just wondering, why after all these years of consistent sizing among different models of the same vacuum, did Dyson do something so out of character for only One model?? I’d think that would be a hassle and costly choice to have to manufacture two different size bins, when all the other Cordless have used the same bin within the same named vacuum.. some even use the same bin for different models like the V7 and V8. Also, will the different Cleaning Heads give drastically different cleaning performance or will it be too subtle to notice? IF it is too subtle the difference in cleaning performance, again.. WHY supply different cleaning heads??

I just thought with as much excitement Dyson is creating regarding the V10’s power and that it can replace a full sized corded vacuum.... you’d think ALL models would and should have the larger bin size to capture all that dirt it will be sucking up as well as the same Torque Drive Cleaning head! So will Testing facilities like Consumer Reports and the EU catch this and rate them separately instead of just one rating as a Dyson V10?? If not, that isn’t fair to the consumer who might not catch these diffences.

I would love to see a side by side comparison in Dirt Pickup from Carpeting done with a V10 Motorhead vs. a V10 Absolute to see how different (if at all noticeable) the carpet cleaning performance differs.

Do any of you have the Motorhead? Did you realize when you bought it, that the bin was smaller? Did any of you that own a V10 have a preference as to which bin size you wanted and why??

Please let me know what you all think and I’d love to hear your thoughts and input please. I LOVE this new Dyson V10 and until I saw it in Target, my excitement for it had blinded me of the fact there was more to the different models than Cyclone color and attachment tools included. Thank you all and I appreciate your feedback and thoughts. Oh and one last funny fact.. the Retail Box the V10 Motorhead comes in is quite a bit Larger than the V10 Animal with the larger bin!

NO shade or disrepect to Dyson as they are a fantasic company and I know I will eventually own the V10 Absolute.. I want to complete my collection as I own the V6, V7 and the V8 now. Too bad they skipped V9 LOL 😂

Interesting...

Thanks for pointing this out.

Perhaps some users found the standard V10 to be too awkward to manoeuvre? Maybe this shortened model address that problem.

And perhaps this model is geared towards an elderly person who does not have as much dexterity as a younger person. A smaller bin might be ample size for them too.

As far as I can see, the UK models are all of the standard larger size.

Ooooh... Another thought!

Maybe this smaller model is to address the storage 'flat on a shelf' issue? Folk were moaning about how older models could sit on their heel, but the standard v10 'nosedived' when put into the same position.
