Here is my last acquisition.

The vacuum doesn't work at all. The switch feels a bit sluggish, I wouldn't be surprised it is the culprit. It has a funky connection on the cord, just like the ones in the ceiling electric boxes, I unscrewed them for inspection, they are solid.

It has "89" and "Elux-o-matic" written on the front.

The straight hose and the PN work like a charm, and they match my AP-100 as for the color. Can somebody tell me what model of PN it is and if it matches my AP-100?

The power nozzle is a PN100. It was the last style of power nozzles with the AP100 machines (circa 1974-76).

The vacuum is an early ZB89. Probably bought between 1968 and 1970. I've included a picture of the one in my collection which includes a lot of the optional parts as well as the first two models of power nozzle that came with the 89 (PN2 and PN3). There was also a third model of power nozzle (PN4) that came with the last of them.

Quite often when those dont work the problem is a broken cord where it connects to the take up spool.

Douglas, thank you for the info and picture. Anything I should be aware of before I undo the 3 screws retaining the spool cover?

I have one of these that I got in St. Louis about 10 years ago. I need a power nozzle and attachments for it. Would those be hard to find and or a pain to ship to the States?

Hey Francois - email me and I can walk you through it - mjdkas@hotmail.com

Hi Phillip - The telescopic wand is hard to find but the rest of the parts are still around. Shipping to the states is a bit high though.

Hey Douglas, I sent you two emails this afternoon. There are loose bearings in the rear compartment, I'll feel safer with your advices.

Previous owner put a towel between the motor and the spool compartment, would it need a square filter there?

I got another ZB89 for free from my neighbor downstairs one hour ago, the motor works but poorly so the cord on this one is definitely good. May I just swap the whole spool and cord as an assembly ?

It seems that if I remove one of the rear wheels I could swap the whole rear ends, that would save me a lot of work. Is it as simple as hammering one of the wheels out ?

all right, I just realized the wheels are retained in place by C-clips, I pushed them out and removed wheels of both cans, swapped whole rear ends, plugged the presumely good vac in, pushed the switch ON and VOILA ! the ZB89 I bought last week works like a charm !

The motor is very quiet and has a run-down time of 11-12 seconds. It draws 6.4 amps, I don't know what the specs are.

I found a very dirty square back filter in the bad can, I washed it and put it in the good can.

Now I know for sure that this vacuum is a good one !

My neighbor made it easy by giving me a machine exactly similar to mine, otherwise I'd still be struggling replacing the cord itself.

My plan is to sell it to buy a dead AP-280 with plenty of attachments that I have had an eye on for a few weeks, it's a bit far from my place so I'll be waiting for the right moment to go to this place.
