For those who have or who will get an Aerus (Electrolux) upright with an onboard tool caddy here is the 2-sided instruction sheet with diagrams. It shows the household version—with the double wand holders (including the standard hose) and two commercial versions—with the single wand holder (one without the upper caddy for storing the dusting brush and crevice tool and including the standard hose; one with the upper caddy and including the slinky hose).

I didn't realize that the hand grip of the Electrolux Commercials and Lux Commercials was designed in part to hold the end of a crevice tool. Another item to mention is the upper caddy's two clips—the top one is for the dusting brush, and the bottom one is for the 4" crevice nozzle. The crevice nozzle may also be stored by attaching it to the dusting brush opening (not mentioned in these instructions). The 4" crevice nozzle was sold from circa 1985 to 1990—from the Hi-Tech 2100 to the Legacy 1521.

I'm not sure, but I think all Electrolux USA's L-nozzle upright hoses have been 6 feet. Anyway, Electrolux recommended trimming the hose to 4 feet if using the onboard caddy for storage. An Aerus dealer I talked with didn't even know that!

Even though it adds a bit of weight, I like the convenience of storing the hose & tools onboard when I need them instead of having to carry the portable caddy around. Some, though, dislike the heaviness and the limitation it causes in being able to clean under low furniture.

The onboard tool caddy was discontinued a while ago, but every once in awhile a NOS appears on eBay.

Correction - 4" Crevice Nozzle

Someone just let me know that the 4" crevice nozzle wasn't introduced until around 1987 at the end of the Diamond J 1521 and jade-colored 2100 era or at the beginning of the Marquise 1521 and taupe-colored 2100 era. It was sold during the "leveraged buy-out years of senior management. The longer crevice tool was reinstated around the time Consolidated Foods retook control around 1990.

It was one of the cost-saving measures Electrolux Corp. took at the time. Another was printing generic owners manuals that were non-specific to labels or models (like Hoover began doing around 1966).

@compact9guy

The first onboard tool caddy was, indeed, made for one of the Discovery cleaners—the Discovery Plus (which is what the "Plus" indicated); so there would be a sand-colored one for your DII. That color was also used on the DIII and Special Edition uprights (and possibly the AdvantageSeries upright).

Other colors I've seen were:

⇒light sand gray (Discovery Advantage, Regency Series, et cetera)

⇒medium gray (called "Storm Gray" by Electrolux) for the gray Epic 2500SR & Epic 3500SR, Prolux, Prolux Commercial by Electrolux & Prolux Plus)

⇒dark gray (Electrolux Commercial & Lux Commercial)

@compactc9guy: Believe me, the plastic tote is much more user friendly than the onboard tool caddy. Fully loaded, the machine becomes very awkward and top heavy. That's why I don't use my Discovery Plus.

I found a storm gray 4-inch stubby crevice tool for my Discovery Plus, which came with no tools, and has a Swedish Electrolux logo on it. Before getting that, I had stuck an 8-inch crevice tool on it that had come with an old shop vac I have. It just barely fit but blocked access to the hose port.

Fyi ...

The household version of the onboard caddy, with double wand holders, came in two colors: light sand gray and storm gray. Here are the household version service numbers for each:

Upper Caddy, Front: 43966 - light sand gray; 43783 - storm gray
Upper Caddy, Back: 43965 - light sand gray; 43782 - storm gray
Lower Caddy: 43964 - light sand gray; 43781 - storm gray

The upper caddy holds the dusting brush and crevice tool, and the lower caddy holds the hose and wands.

The light sand gray color was used for these uprights: Discovery series, Regency Series, Special Edition, Advantage Series, the Genesis series, the Epic 3000SR, and the first color iteration of the Epic 2500SR (models 1770 & U112A) & Epic 3500SR (models 1719 & U110A).

The storm gray-colored caddy color matched these household cleaners: Prolux series (except the Prolux 2000), the Epic 2500SR (model U112B) and Epic 3500SR (model U110B)

The commercial uprights' onboard caddy, with the single wand holder, was also storm gray.

When I was going through my Electrolux upright phase, I went to a dealer for bags and while talking with him he informed me that the "new" uprights with attached hoses weren't going over so well.  This was about 2004.

They added too much weight and were clumsy, he said.

It was Electrolux way of trying to compete with other brands uprights that had the onboard tools. and were dominating the market.

Yeah, they were the household versions: Lux 4000, model U140A; and Lux 6000, models U140B, U140C, & U156A. There was also a commercial version labeled Xtreme Plus, model U139A.

For the reasons you mentioned Aerus sold the design to ProTeam after using it from around 2000-2005. ProTeam sold several different successive labels of the design— including later modifications—for quite a few years before retiring it in 2013; namely "Cascade", "ProCare", & "ProForce".

In addition, Aerus & ProTeam partnered in manufacturing the Prolux 1400, 1400X, & 1400XP—sold by ProTeam; and the Electrolux and Lux commercial uprights. The upper part was the Electrolux design (used on all its standard L-shaped uprights without the attached hose), and the base was the ProTeam design (with the System Performance Indicators). Aerus continues to sell the partnered commercial model, now called "Lux Commercial", model U129U.
