The d50 has 2 colors it was dark then light colored tan. Kirby needs has trim dark color is what he has labeled really old replacement for 505 up. He has light colored on d50 up light color called Sirocco. Bill a007kirbyman I'm sure has some. He can tell you difference. Between sanitronic 7 sparkly tan to dark tan to Sirocco to rosewood on classic Idk how to explain other than 2 colors light and dark tan. The light tan which is called Sirocco looks like s7 too me dark tan looks close to rosewood brown. I wish you luck. Maybe Bill can post and educate us.

I don't know which color mine is considered. It is metallic copper. The wheels and on/off button are also matching metallic copper. The plastic cover on the bag with the D50 logo and the plastic collar around the bottom of the bag are a flat brown.

Pam,

kirbyvertibles is right... it is called sirocco.

There were two other Kirbys before this that had this trim in a metallic fashion: the 562 Sanitronic (1962-1963) and the Sanitronic VII (1963-1965).

I think the current genuine replacement parts available from Kirby are either black of grey. I could be wrong though.

The replacement is Sirocco. 505 to d80 with a few green items but Sirocco is what kirby sells and puts on if they rebuild it. You can find some NOS but yeah. I talked to Bill and he told me 562 had light sparkly tan s7 d50 same color last 2 years of d50 tan. If you look at badge of vacuum that is usually color of vacuum and in some instances like early 500 series has belt lifter logo. D80 plate is not same color as vacuum. The rest I see have color of trim in logo/stamp. I have had a few d50s. I had a 562 a s7. I got tons of odd wheels. But d50s dark and light but trim true stock matches serial plate or whatever it is called.

Pam,

I love that your D50 still has its original factory cloth bag with the closely-spaced Kirby ovals on it!

Of course I may wrong -- I frequently am! -- but I thought the copper-colored trim pieces were only used on the 562; that when the Sanitronic VII came out the trim was all the same matching non-metallic darkish-tan which Kirby termed "sirroco."

From my web site:

Model 562 - 1962

The 562's color scheme was unique, different from any other model. All the plastic and rubber trim (except for the wheels*) was a metallic copper color including the handle grip, bag top, switch cover, handle lock button, bumper trim and headlight trim.

The cord was white with tan ends, the only Kirby model ever to have a white cord.

*The wheels were the tan color that Kirby named "sirroco" when the Sanitronic VII came out and all the trim was the same "sirroco" color.

btw, thr 562 and all tan Sanitronic bags had Kirby logo in closely-spaced OVALS, not CIRCLES. Tan bags with CIRCLES are after-market replacements, as are tan bags where the ovals are spaced about an inch or so apart -- on the original bags, the ovals are very close together.

The "Sani-Pocket" and "Sani-Scraper" appeared on the 562 (a zippered pocket on back side of bag where you put your hand inside to dislodge trapped dirt with a cardboard scraper. Yuk.)

Not that this is a world-changing matter, mind you...

I am confused now, lol
Is Sirroco sparkly or non-sparkly? So did D50's come with sparkly tan, non-sparkly tan, and dark tan trim?

Mine has sparkly tan trim on the headlight and the rug nozzle as well as sparkly tan wheels and on/off switch.
The plastic trim on the bag, the handle grip, and the bottom of the emptor are flat tan.
The serial plate has a dark brown background.

The D50 replacement headlamp trim I see sold online all looks like the flat tan. In pictures of D50's I have seen online the headlamp trim always looks sparkly to me.

The 562 is only sparkly one. It's light tan with glitter. I have a 562 handle I'll have to take a pic of.
Any trim after s7 is Sirocco. So basically in a nutshell kirby bags have circles. They also have Sirocco trim. I think that sums explication up.
It's not world changing good info to know. Thanks.

If the sparkly/metallic tan on my D50 is called Sirocco then what is the non-sparkly tan also on my D50 called? If I order D50 replacement headlamp trim will it be sparkly to match the old trim?

The sparkly is not original. Sirocco is every other color. 562 is only year of sparkles. If you have sparkles not original.

Pam, Les & Kirby trim discussion...

a007kirbyman's profile picture
Hello Pam, Les & all,

Actually Les, when we spoke yesterday, I said it was the opposite of what you initially posted above in 'Reply# 1.'

"...light color called Sirocco..."

"...sanitronic 7 sparkly tan to dark tan to Sirocco..."

The model to have the dark 'metallic' L@@King (ie: sparkly) bag top cover & handle grip was the 562 (or Sanitronic). As for the rest of the trim on the 562, nozzle & headlight bumper, bag guard & EmTor tray, they are definitely darker as well; however, I don't know that I would say they are 'metallic' so much so.

I do have some NOS headlight bumpers I recently acquired, that were for use on the 562, & again they ARE darker, but I won't classify them as 'metallic' like the bag top cover or handle grip. (I'll take a closer L@@K at them possibly tomorrow, just to confirm that is the case.)

As we also discussed, the 562 had the white cord with the dark female & male ends. Also, as I had said, the S VII had the same "Sanitronic" name on the bag top cover; however, it was now lighter in color & it was NOT "metallic" in appearance like the 562 was prior.

One other trim item in common with the 562 & the S VII was the belt lifter.

I believe the "Sirocco" description or name was used on the introduction of the 562. In the 1963 Kirby Service Manual the color of trim was referred to as brown.

It is not, & was not uncommon for Kirby to actually use different names for some of the colors over the years on some of the models. There may have been more alternatives for some of the other model colors that I have not become aware of yet. ~lol~

These are some that I AM aware of:

SE II ~~~~~~~~ Warm Brown/French Gray & Teal/Turquoise
SE ~~~~~~~~~~ Autumn/Storm Gray & Warm Red
UG & DE ~~~~ Twilight/Dusk
G6 ~~~~~~~~~~ Onyx/Black & Yellow
G5 ~~~~~~~~~~ Cabernet/Burgandy
L II ~~~~~~~~~ Maroon/Mauve

Getting back to the 562, I would love to see in person, (or see photos of), other Genuine Kirby trim components that are 'metallic' L@@King, such as the EmTor tray.

As time has gone from Kirby model to model, 562, S VII, D50; & batches or orders of replacement parts, they have gotten lighter & lighter in color.

When I order larger quantities of trim, wheels, etc., they many times will vary in color. As I said yesterday, when speaking with Les, I have three (3) different shades of Genuine blue Tradition wheels.

It's much like paint matching used to be, (& may still be); when you want/need more, if you don't mix some of what you have, with what just got to complete the project, then you'll many times will see a difference on the walls (or item(s)).

Remember the old saying: "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder." We may all see the same thing, slightly different than another person does. I'm just glad I can still see!!! ~lol~

My apologies to you Les, for the explanation getting mixed up in our conversation. :-))

If I may be of assistance to anyone with your Kirby wants & needs, let me know.

Cheers & hagn/d all,

Bill

Oh, and the D80 belt lifter is green with gold stripes. The same color as the handle and bag and trim.

If the trim on my machine was replaced, the wheels and power button were also replaced to match. But regardless, where might I find replacement metallic trim? I don't want to replace the trim with D50 flat tan.

Hey
The bag is darker green than trim headlight bumper handle bag guard bag topper and handle light green and bag is darker green. FYI. The even had tan belt lifters on d80 miracle head and attachments from d50. Just in case you didn't know and was first year of wide fork d80 on front sticker and a sticker on back of d80 fork was exact color of dual sanitronic 80 box. I believe a on serial number is first year production. Oh the emptor bottom was matching handle had a green cord. It was stock with 10 blade metal fan. The power button was same color as handle. The d80 and the d50 have same exact motor and 2 speeds switch. The d80 claims. 5 amp more power than the d50. Some were made in Texas some in Ohio. 2nd to last machine Mr kirby helped bi ld. Sanatronic came from janitronic company kirby bought in early 60s. There was a commercial version of d80 I believe purple and red white and blue. I know tons more fwi.
