Hello, recently I have been looking to replace my old central vacuum system. After hours of shopping and searching, I spotted the Beam Q power team. I really like the look of the machine and the design looks very nice. I really cant find any in depth reviews about the unit, and I don't want to dish out $450 for something that woks poorly. If anyone owns one of them and could maybe give me some pros and con's about if they like the machine or not, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you so much!

The Q kit sounds and looks nice, and I will admit that they are fun to use. However, they get technical problems once every while and they are not easy to take apart so because of that I would look into something else. I recommend looking at the kits from these companies below.

How is the cleaning power and performance?

Post# 386871 , Reply# 3   2/27/2018 at 16:03 (2,221 days old) by HonestJoe68 (Mansfield, Ohio)
@lann_nic

I can personally attest to the fact the Riccar or Simplicity Powered Brushrolls are excellent performers and Extremely Quiet while in use. The exact same powerheads are used for the Canister vacuums as in the Central Vacuum systems that @panasonicvac supplied links to above.

These powered brushroll systems from both Riccar and Simplicity (Both Tacony Company Vacuums) are well made with Steel Brushrolls and excellent bristle brushes. They make the nap on all my carpeting and rugs look clean and new. I also love them the best of all my Canister type powered brushrolls as they are the quietist I’ve ever used but still very powerful.

I’d recommend any Riccar or Simplicity to anyone interested in a higher end, superior quality vacuum that’s also Made in the USA. (With globally sourced components)

I hope this helps, sorry I don’t have any information on the other brands, but from what I saw after checking all the links (including looking up your Beam Q) they all seem rather nice. So best of luck to you and I hope you find something you really like and it performs well in your home. Thanks

Stay away!

I've been in the Central Vacuum industry for over 30 years and sadly, today, Beam is not the best anymore. The Q power team is like the Aerus and made only for Beam and not industry standard. You can never try using any other brand of nozzle with this system or for that matter you have to use the "adapter" if you want to use any other make of tool. Plus made in China.
Your screen shows a great old Budd system. Yes, they were good. But there's so much more on the market today that surpasses the Budd in performance, convenience and more! Especially in quietness! Budd's are loud! All older machines were as they didn't have the soundproofing they do today.
The suggestion of going to Central Vacuum Stores is excellent. Their private label machines are from VacuMaid and in my opinion are the best.
Bottom line is don't settle for medicore or well, obsolete...that's what the Beam stuff is going to be...and soon!
Greg

@luxflairguy Thank you so much for all that information! Although I am aware that the Bird units may be obsolete and lould (jet engine lould) I would truly buy another Buds vacuum if I could. I absolutely love my Budd System. I have had it for nearly 35 years and it has never failed me. The only thing I have ever don’t to it is empty the bucket and clean the filter! They are built like tanks and have so much power! But I have been looking further into it and I think I will be purchasing the MD Stealth kit. They have incredible reviews and seem to be one of the best on the market. I will keep you all posted!!

Bravo! A FAR better system than anything from Beam! Greg

First of all, let me say that I agree with Panasonicvac about the Beam Q kit. I would steer clear of ANYTHING with the Electrolux name on it, which is also Beam's parent company. That powerhead is made in China, & you might be interested to know their central vacs are made in Sweden, & canister vacuums being made in Hungary, with some low-end models being made in China. There is a VERY GOOD chance some of the parts in that Beam Q kit wil come from the Hungary plant. While Electrolux AB has made some improvements in recent years in build quality, their record for producing quality vacuums is HORRIBLE! Go ahead & look at Consumer Reports & the reliability ratings they post for canister vacuums, Electrolux AB (not Aerus Electrolux) is at the BOTTOM of that list, for good reason! Their canister vacuums build quality is dismal at best, VERY repair prone, with poor reliability ratings. Furthermore, support from the company is poor, leaving many frustrated consumers waiting weeks for parts to come into the repair shop for broken vacs in for warranty repairs.

Also, one other HUGE reason not to purchase that kit is the powerhead is non user serviceable. You CANNOT take apart that powerhead at home yourself if a belt breaks or brushroll or headlight bulb needed replacement. The design is SO complex that if you took it apart yourself, chances are highly likely you would only break it further. These powerheads are designed to be serviced by vac shops ONLY! For me, for that reason alone, plus the poor quality & reliability of their products, that Beam Q kit would be a huge NO. There are better quality kits in the same price range. Furthermore, Luxflairguy, Greg, makes a valid point about the tools, wand & hose in that kit being proprietary, if you need to use tools from your old kit or another old vacuum, or you buy generic fit all tools, you must use an adapter you can purchase from Beam.

However, regarding the Stealth kit, I would reconsider that if I was you. One thing you will NOT like about that Lindhaus powerhead is the brushroll is extremely wimpy in performance. Use it on anything other than low-pile, commercial style carpeting, & you will be dissatisfied with it's performance. The reason for this is obvious if you look at the brushroll....it has only 1 row of bristles, & they are very soft & don't protrude very far out of the soleplate of the powerhead. I guarantee you, if you buy that powerhead, chances are 90% you will be dissatisfied with it's performance & want to return it.

I would suggest looking at the first two kits I linked to below. The Simplicity kit is made by Tacony Corp, & is the same powerhead used on their canister vacuums. Metal bottom plate & brushroll with replaceable strips, permanent V Belt, extremely durable & very high quality. Excellent carpet cleaning performance on all types of carpet. I own a Simplicity Gusto canister with that powerhead & I LOVE IT! One of the best powerheads I think I have EVER used! Also note that powerhead is also sold under the Riccar name as well. The only suggestion I would make is to be sure the powerhead you buy has the 3 row brushroll, NOT the 2 row brushroll in the powerhead HonestJoe68 shows in his pictures. That brushroll is just OK, you will be much more pleased with the 3 row brushroll.

The Sebo ET-1 kit is very similar in quality to the Stealth kit with the Lindhaus powerhead you are considering. Both are commercial quality, with the Sebo being made in Germany instead of Italy. Both powerheads you can remove a cap to remove the brushroll & cut hair & string off, very convenient feature. Permanent geared lifetime belts on both. However, the Sebo has 2 rows of bristles, a bit more aggressive grooming performance, & it also has a on-off switch on the powerhead, a nice little convenience feature for hoses with no switch. You might also be interested to know that Sebo is the brand most of the door to door vac companies turn to to supply their powerheads, along with Wessel Werk. Also, guess who makes the powerhead most commercial canister vacuum manufacturers use? Sebo. I think that alone speaks volumes about the quality & performance of the product.

If budget is a issue, I would suggest looking at the Eureka powerhead kit in the 2 links below. It is also sold under the names Sweep & Groom & Beam Rugmaster. Very high quality kit & a industry proven design that has been around since 1986 without change in design. High quality steel brushroll with replaceable strips, flat belt that is easy to access & change once a year. Some versions of this powerhead come with a headlight, on-off switch, both or neither of those features. Those 2 I linked to both come with headlight & on-off switch. This powerhead is the industry leader in performance, you will be hard pressed to find another powerhead that cleans BETTER than this one. Remember how I said above how much I love the performance of the Simplicity powerhead? This is the ONLY one that is currently being made that cleans BETTER than it! Furthermore, it is a quality design that LASTS, because it uses a very basic design with high quality motors & durable components. It is not uncommon to see these powerheads 20 plus years old & still in use, that's how good they are! If you are looking for quality, exceptional cleaning performance & value, you will be hard pressed to beat a kit with this powerhead in it.

Beware of one thing though....avoid the imitation of the Eureka powerhead that says DustCare PB11. Sometimes they will just refer to it by PB11, DustCare, or both. There are also companies that have their own trademark name, such as MD's BlackHawk powerhead. This particular powerhead is a Chinese made knockoff that is garbage & extremely poor quality in comparison to the Eureka. Powerhead motors barely last 5 years before they die & need replacement, & the plastic is very poor quality & the screwholes & posts break very easily. If it looks like these 2 powerheads I link to here & pictured below, AVOID THEM AT ALL COST! They will give you nothing but trouble & you will regret your purchase.
builtinvacuum.com/parts/all/carp...

I would also avoid Wessel Werk powerheads for the same reason as the Beam Q powerhead, it is non user serviceable & very easy to break if you take one apart at home. Also, I would avoid any powerhead made by Centec....while those powerheads were made by Panasonic for Centec & sold as a replacement central vac powerhead, & while they are good quality & clean well, Panasonic has recently left the vacuum manufacturing business & parts will soon be hard to find for them.

@kirbylux77

Hello Rob!

I learned something new today, I didn’t realize my Simplicity Premium Power Nozzle, with the Dirt Sensor had Three Rows of Brushes and my Deluxe only Two. I keep the Premium and my newest Simplicity Tandom Air Power Nozzle (which I was kinda disappointed has only Two rows as well) in storage as collectibles. I take them out every now and then to use them “carefully” to preserve the pristine appearance. Lol

But now that I know I’m going to put the Deluxe away for a while and get out the Premium. Honestly I didn’t notice a “better” clean from the three row brushroll ONLY because they All are such superior machines and do you agree.. SO very quiet too.

Thank you again for the mention and explanation. I’m more of an eclectic collector that doesn’t always catch those specific details but rather goes by how I feel using it or sometimes (I know I’m Crazy Lol) I buy strictly on appearance or Color! I know we’re talking central vacuum Brushrolls but to show an example on Color being the ONLY criteria for my deciding purchase.. I bought my Riccar Premium Radiance R40P in the gorgeous Metallic Dark Teal, and paid a bit more rather than take a sweet deal from my Simplicity dealer (and good friend, Scott) because the Synergy Premium is Black Cherry... I dislike Red so much. So my Scott kindly threw me an excellent deal on my equally gorgeous, although not as fancy, Fetch Pet Vacuum S30PET in my Favorite Color (Second to Blue)... Metallic Grass Green.

Sorry to ramble off topic but in a small way it shows I’m VERY pleased and Highly Recommend Tacony Vacuums.. I own many Riccar, Simplicity and all Four Current Maytag Vacuum Models! The new M600 Cordless, I use almost ever single day.

Thanks for the information, even though intended for Ian @lann_nic it’s been very helpful.

@lann_nic. Ian, best of luck and I look forward to hearing which central vac and Power Nozzle set you eventually choose. Thanks

avoid the beam kit

I would also avoid the Beam kit, the hose end is nonstandard and while you can use an adapter to use standard attachments, the electrical connection is nonstandard preventing you from using any other power head. Here is the kit I would suggest, it includes the Sebo power nozzle. The Tacony kits are also very good.

I would stay away from Eureka Electrolux Beam

I would highly recommend the sebo kit with the et1 powerhead.

I personally owned and recommend the kit with the ebk 360 power nozzle which is a very common German made nozzle, with a Canadian bult hose .

The Lindhaus stealth power nozzle is excellent as well.

Hello all! I just read through all be comments and I just have to say thank you all so much for how helpful you all have been!!!

In regards to the symplicity and Sebo power heads. I have had one before and unfortunately I have not had a good past with them. I completely agree!! They are very powerful and really dig deep down into the carpet. Now, I have an assortment of carpeting. I have very low Berber, high shag, medium carpeting and very delicate (and very expensive 😬) area rugs. In regards to the area rugs, shag, and Berber I feel that my old power nozzle ( Electrolux special edition from maybe 20 years ago) did a much better job with them. The sebo actually started rippin out the fibers on the area rug and ruined it! I unfortunately had to return it. Now the symplicity unfortunately didn’t work very well with the shag at all and that really made me return it as well. But, with the regular medium height carpeting they worked perfectly! After reaching out to MD (stealth company) they assured me that it woke very well on all my carpet types . Also, the stealth kit I am going to buy was actually a floor model that never got used so I’ll be getting the same product for a extremely discounted price!! Because they are super expensive! :( So I think that I will be going with the stealth power head kit .

The powernozzle I like best with my Silentmaster is the Volt powernozzle-blows away all of the others!!!!Yes-even that Stealth one.I bought a returned Stealth kit thast the vacuum place near me sold. The tools and hose are in excellent shape and a hose sock was thrown in.Use this with my Volt nozzle.Supurb results!!Try a Volt and you will see!And as a bonus will work on ANY vacuum that it can fit onto-yes even with a Kirby set as a canister-or even with my NSS M1.

I would recommend the Wessel Werk EBK 360 over your other choices. Our central vac system came with the white Vacuflo version of this nozzle and it is the only nozzle that makes our frieze family room carpeting stand up. I have a Volt that I use with my hide a hose outlet and I'm actually not that impressed. Maybe mine is a dud?

EBK360 and volt nozzles

The EBK360 is an excellent nozzle, interesting that your Volt is not cleaning well, is the belt in good shape? This nozzle does use a flat belt which is the one mistake I think they made when designing it, but other than that, especially with the extra airflow it provides, it should clean very well.

Is there a clog in the neck of your Volt-sometimes it will eat something and clog the neck.I have unclogged mine by running it and covering the end of the wand-then letting go quickly-often the Volts airflow will knock the obstruction loose.
