So i was walking around the antique shop today and ran into this vacuum. My first thought was that it was a kirby c electric model. then i realized that it wasn't. i was able to read the label though. It is a Heath mor. Sanitation system. circa 1920's. it runs like a top and appears to be in good shape. i dont know much about this particular vacuum so could some of you please tell me about this vacuum? I would like to know more about this vacuum as i really like it. its very easy and fun to use. also, is this copper head original or is it painted?

Electro hygiene royal brand made by private brand like Stark vacuum today. Could be health Mor. I provided link. But looks like private label royal circa 1928. Here is link from Chicago health Mor. The bag looks like royal electro hygiene. To bag it doesn't say sanitation system in red with black duvetyne bag then you know it's kirby. Still pretty awesome find.

The Pic is from Mike Baldo ebay some other person put on their website. But it's Mike's I'd text and ask if I could use pics but I think he's under the weather. I'll be sure to let him know I used it.
It's electro hygiene late 20s. Notice same exact font and writing style. The wheels are not original call that educated guess. You basically have a early royal vacuum made under private label health Mor from Chicago. If you know year look up that year of royal vacuum. It should look identical. I'm surprised Ben hasn't said anything. He knows royals and kirbys like no one else. Lesinutah

It looks to me like someone had a little fun with a can of gold spray paint. It's hard to tell from the pics, so at first I was wondering if the head was actually brass instead of aluminum, but in the 2nd set of pics, there's a gold bracket and a spring. A spring is not gonna be made of brass.

In case anyone was curious, those wheels came from a late 1960's/early 1970's TV trolley. So that dates when this vacuum was last used. Gold was also popular to decorate with in the early 70's.
The following pics are from a random eBay auction. Someone was a very clever handyman! These vacuums in the 1970's were likely just considered worthless junk, so they didn't care about devaluation when repairing it the way they did, they just wanted to make it look pretty. | ||

Health-Mor
The Health-Mor Sanitation System was built by P.A. Geier Company in Cleveland, who also built Royal and Electro-Hygiene vacs, which is why they all look similar. The main differences were that the Health-Mor had a different nozzle, different bag, and foot switch. Health-Mor eventually switched to canister cleaners with the introduction of the model 20 Filter Queen.
And yes, the nozzle would have originally been polished aluminum, wheels would have been black, and the bag would have had Health-Mor Sanitation System on it. here are pics of my model 94 Electro-Hygiene, Health-Mor, and an early straight suction Royal for comparison. The bags on the Hygiene 94 and Health-mor are both replacements, but the previous owner of both of them had a section of the original bag serged onto the replacement, and had the Health-Mor logo embroidered on that one. Glad to be able to help. As for the wheels, you might ask at the vac shops (especially Royal dealers) in your area if they have any old stock wheels around, or check hardware stores (especially old ones that have been around for a while), or industrial supply companies, someone may have something close. After you get the paint off the nozzle, give it a good polishing with Mother's Mag and it will turn out beautiful!
And Les, since you asked, here are a few pics of some of my Electro-Hygienes and Royals. First is a group shot of some of my Electro-Hygienes, Models 285 (3 of them), 777, 880, 890, and 980. Next, a group shot of Royals, models 601, 801, 603, 606, 801, 602, and 883. Next, a model 2-230 Electro-Hygiene with attachments, the last straight suction Electro-Hygiene made. Next is a model 903 Electro-Hygiene with attachments and Extra Equipment Kit. Last but not least is what I call ensemble in red and black, models 153 and 189 uprights and 157 hand vac. And by the way, I have no idea why the 153 and 189 uprights in the pic only have one cord hook, my other 189 has both. Enjoy! Jeff | ||

Another wheel option would be to find some in a color and paint them black. A chemical stripper would work good on the nozzle. I had used B12 carb cleaner (in the gallon can) for stripping paint off vintage Emerson fans. A good polish afterwards will make it really shine! | ||

Wheels
The original wheels would have been made out of either hard rubber or bakelite, and they would have been black. Here is a side view of one of my model 94's to give you a better look at them. Hope this helps.

Hygiene 903
It's first time since weekend I looked at the thread. My goodness sir those are beautiful machines. The older hose handheld. What makes them super special and rare is they are electro hygiene who's production is not even close to Royals. I would ask but you probably own a meseum or donate to them. I am envious of 1 vacuum and you have the whole ensemble. Thanks again for pics and knowledge. It's stuff books don't have.

Thank you for the compliments, glad you enjoyed them. Electro-Hygienes and Royals have been favorites of mine since before I started collecting, just plain great vacuum cleaners in my opinion. They're durable, powerful, maneuverable, can't ask for much more than that. Between the two, I am especially fond of Electro-Hygienes, and the model that was current when I sold them was the 903, so that's where my screen name comes from. Also had 2 Aunts and a Great Aunt who owned them, and 2 Uncles who sold them in the late 40's. So you could say I have a family connection with Electro-Hygiene. And the Great Aunt had 3 of them--starting with a 230, which she traded in for a 285 in the early 60's, which she traded in for an 890 or 903 (not sure which) in the early 70's.
Wasn't sure what you meant by "older hose handheld," but if you were referring to the 5th picture in the set, the hose doesn't go with the handvac in front, but rather the attachment set behind it for the uprights. Again, thank you for the compliments. Jeff | ||
