If they keep snapping, your brushroll is not turning properly (needs oiling or too close to the carpet) or you are using old stock belts that are just rotten. I do not believe Hoover has made OEM Convertible belts for probably the last decade or more. All the ones I seen on eBay now in a quick search are no newer than the late 90's. I've had a Hoover Convertible and a Eureka ESP and both of them have the design flaw of putting the belt within the suction path, it's very easy to pick up something that will cut the belt and cause it to snap and kill it prematurely. T
he Hoover Convertible that I got out of the dump in 2010 still has the same belt on it that came with it for who knows how long.I wouldn't think there would be any problem with what belt you use, just the same as using modern belts on 80 year old vacuums. I mean if you are going with a museum piece, sure, but if it's a daily driver that you use every day I wouldn't worry about it as long as they are the same specs. |

You could try using Hoover's 044783AG belts. They are the (supposedly) longer-life belts that the Guardsman (commercial Convertible) uses.
I can't imagine that those belts are no longer available. Hoover still sells the Guardsman! CLICK HERE TO GO TO broomvac's LINK |

The new Hoover belts are as a rule too tight and hard on bearings, I never have a problem with slipping. Eureka belts work fine for me. |
