Just got this vintage late 1960s footstool that is actually a vacuum cleaner. It is called the Decor Vac.

The hose goes in the top and swivels just like a general electric swivel top from the 1950s

The bags are made out of a very heavy blue paper. The entire machine has to be moved around since it is part of the footstool. There is no carrying handle. There are four large caster wheels on the bottom of the footstool. You would have to pick the whole monstrosity up to get it up the stairs. Still, it has a two thing and lamb motor and is very powerful.

motor

Does it use the awesome Ametek two stage motor, sounds like it would based on the time it was out.

They call it an ottoman, but nice. Would fit right in on the Dick Van Dyke show.

Yes, it does use the same motor as the best cleaners from the 60's. The same as a Compact, Filter Queen (single speed), Kenmore, Eureka Canned Ham, Air-Way, Haley's Comet, etc.

The Haley's Comet was a damn monstrosity. A Compact on steroids with a cord rewinder, it was like pulling an oversized microwave oven. Sold by door to door salesmen, it had probably the worst rug nozzle ever made. Totally useless. Chris Spoon brought his to the Vacuum Convention two years ago. I thought you tried it out. It has plastic Kirby wands as its wands, so most of them broke right away.

There was a decal under the lid with a poem that read:

"The Age of Space. The Rocket Race. Push-Button Leisure Day. Be First to clean your Jet-Set home the Haley Comet Way!"

sounds like a total flop

It had a good motor and would have probably worked if it had a better nozzle but it sounds like it was a total failure. I don't remember trying it at the convention but it's possible I did although if it's that much of a beast I would have probably remembered it.
