Hey guys! I decided to take apart my dial a matic without any instructions to get to the motor and look at the carbon brushes. I unscrewed everything but what now? I’m trying to get the body off of the base.

Dial-A-Matic

As with most vacs start with the basics. On non power drive DAM remove bottom plate, brush & belt, hose between brush & bag, handle & cord assy, bag door. Then go further to the problem area.(Or as one vac guy told me years ago 'Take out every screw you can find and shake it'!) With condition of your motor you might need a parts vac or motor. With some DAMs motor is similar to Portable,Slimline & Swingette.Others will no more.
Good luck

And does anybody have an original handle screw for this machine? I got a different screw from the Home Depot and it doesn’t screw in all the way, not very firmly.

Big Headache!

I had a DAM a few years ago and took it apart to thoroughly clean it and get rid of the rotting foam inside. I just about lost my religion! That thing is a beast to work on.

Hello! I checked...evidently I mixed it up with a Constellation motor. One of the old-timers who have shops near by might have a motor...Ill give them a ring tomorrow.

Thank you very much.
