Hoover REACT Powered Reach Premier Bagless Upright Vacuum UH73550PC

I don't like bagless machines, but on a whim, I ordered it New Year's eve. One should not drink and shop.

I used the React for 34 minutes last night according to the app. I forgot to mention that this vacuum comes with an app that you can install on your smart phone or android tablet (won't work with the Amazon Fire). It monitors your vacuum by Bluetooth and alerts you to when you should clean the rinse able filter, as well as registering your machine, setting your floor sense preferences, and accessing helpful maintenance and how to videos.

My first complaint is the machine is heavy on the wrist. It is basically a canister machine mounted on the power nozzle wand. Very much like the Shark Navigator. The brunt of the weight is resting on the handle and ultimately your wrist. The handle is uncomfortable in the hand and places your wrist in an uncomfortable position as well as adding the weight and trying to control the "swivel" of the steerable nozzle.

It is a heavy machine, approximately 18 pounds. If you are a whiner about he weight of a vacuum, this is not going to be the one you would want to seek out. This weight puts it in the class of a Kirby, but is harder to push and handle.

The machine and tools feel solid, of good quality. The "floor sense" nozzle actually senses the resistance the carpeting puts on the brush motor and adjusts the brush speed accordingly. This is supposed to "sense" bare floors, but if you have a low pile carpet, indoor/outdoor or kitchen carpet style. The vacuum will sense it as bare floor and slow the brush roll. You will have to turn off the floor sense in order to have a full speed brush roll on these type of carpets. You can program floor sense to stop the brush roll on hard floors, or slow the brush roll to a slow sweep to avoid scattering.

I used the powered stair tool, and it did a very good job, however, the handle is fixed permanently straight upwards, which makes it difficult to maneuver on a stair landing. It also has a nozzle opening that you can flip upwards and clean the riser side of stair carpeting. You can do this all the while balancing a heavy canister portion of the machine and fighting with a very short hose. Let me mention the hose would be much more useful if it were about three foot longer, but is of a very nice quality. On my particular machine it is a black material, not the clear plastic that looks terrible after dust collects inside it.

Other attachments are very nice, I especially like the extended dusting brush with the long fibers and microfiber surface. There is an extended reach crevice tool, a upholstery tool, and a real neat-o baseboard tool. In addition there is a microfiber floor tool for bare floor dusting.

The lift-off feature is nice, but awkwardly designed. The Hose is on one side of the docking port on the wand and the power cord is on the other. You have to lift the cord over the handle to then seat the canister back on the wands. I actually found it easier to disconnect the hose from the canister and then reconnect it after I re-dock the unit.

BAGLESS!!
As I mentioned, I am not a fan of bagless machines. After the initial run of 34 minutes, there was a slight dusting beyond the cyclones, and nothing visible on the rinse able filters. This machine is also quipped with (2) two HEPA after filters. This is nice, and one hopes they last a long time as they are listed at $19.99 each to replace.

There was a drastic price drop soon after I purchased this machine. I am not happy with Amazon's policy about matching prices for their Prime Members when only three days after a sale, but I understand their stand, so I encourage all buyers to take advantage of the add on items you can add to your purchase if you spend $25 or more. I am not going to complain too loudly as I got four gallons of Hoover Steam Cleaner detergent for what one would have originally cost. I am going to justify my savings there, when fuming over the $43 price drop.

This will not be my regular vacuum, if it were, I would send it back for something better. Since I bought it for my collection, it won't see a lot of usage. I see some points that may be weak, such as the weight bearing nozzle neck, and the docking pin. Be sure to register your five year warranty.

P.S. It appeared to do a good job cleaning, did a good job grooming the carpeting. There wasn't a terrible lot to pick up as I had just steam cleaned the carpets this last weekend, so mostly some pet fur, and dust was all that was in the bin.

That was a very clear, concise way to go about that. TTI should hear stuff like this.
Again, nice job.
John

Thank you John

I take that as a very high complement, coming from Mr. Hoover himself.

A complete, 'array' if you will. Mr. Hoover is one of the better ones.

I saw that machine today, I think. So many looking alike. It did look nice, not cheap. But just looking was thinking the same things you said, where the weight was.Certainly have seen worse for sure.

Hoover to me is such an icon! I am so glad I was around to take part in it's true history from a vintage perspective!

Congratulations Kirbysthebest! I have a soft spot for Hoover and I too bought this vacuum. I don’t use it often but as a total tech geek nerd.. I find the phone app too fun! I like this Hoover but feel as you do too.. it’s a bit hefty but it seems solid construction.

Anyhow, have fun with your newest vacuum. It’s the second favorite Hoover in my current collection.. I rate my favorite (Hoover only) as follows:

1) Hoover Hushtone 13+
2) Hoover React
3) Hoover Platinum Lightweight Bagged Upright
4) Hoover Anniversary Windtunnel Self Propelled
5) Hoover Air Lift Deluxe Upright

All my many other Hoover hold a close 6th place and it’s more about the nostalgia of the Name Hoover.
