I live about 35 miles north of Plover, WI.  I'll have to try and get in contact with this gentleman about this wonderful group.

Yeah, nice article. If you have questions on restoring screws & certain pieces, you can borrow technology from auto restorers. A good place to start is with the Eastwood Catalog.

If I was going into the business or restoring vacs, I'd want all the tools & methods to do so. Personally, I think it would be a tough business to sustain you. You'd need a slick website and be on eBay. Also, you'd need to have a good warranty and be obliged to deal with nutters. People by and large that collect vacs are looking for deals and/or they do the work themselves. There's room for those that want to pay for full restorations, but I don't think it's a huge market yet.

It seems I have one thing in common with that guy. I like tinkering with the machines a whole lot better than actually vacuuming the floors.

Well, if you call that a fault....I'm guilty as well. I'm much more interested in how things work and making them work perfectly....then actually using them all the time. I haved some very nice 35mm cameras and lenses...enough that you'd think I was quite the photographer from the past.  Truth is I marvel at how they all work and function more than taking pictures.

Like most people here, I have more vacs than I can 'practically' use. I have to force myself to switch models/brands.  During this house move it was nice to have different vacs at the two locations, but was really the only time 'necessary' to have more than one vac.

The natural progression then would be to fix vacs for other people....lol! I have restored about a dozen Diamond J's and given them to family & friends to great effect.

Can't say the same for myself... Not to say I don't care for working on them, but for me, using them has always been the highlight of the whole ordeal. I do enjoy taking them apart and being the insides as I service it and clean it up, then when I'm vacuuming I sort of visualize whats going on inside the thing, picturing whats going on and whats making the various noises the machine makes. The sound of the vacuum, and more importantly the sound of the dirt getting sucked up, are the things I enjoy most about vacuums, followed by how it looks moving across the rug...
