Well I must admit I was totally shocked today with a gift from a good friend,
Colin and i have been friends for 17 years or so,He owns a Dry carpet cleaning company in Hout Bay and what started out as a customer soon turned into a great friendship, In fact he came to our rescue years ago when Joanne and I got married, on the very morning of the wedding the Mercedes that was supposed to be used blew a welsh plug depositing coolant all over the driveway, Colin came to our rescue Driving Joanne to our wedding in his bright red Porsche 928, Nervous as I was the car nut in me heard the Porsche v8 burble driving into the church, My bride had arrived.
Any how back from a trip down memory lane
Colin is always keeping a eye out for me for vacuums ,, He found the U7013 commercial 652 I posted on here about a few months back and today while dropping off repairs he said he had a Gift for me,

I could not believe my eyes, I have never seen one before other than on the net, I had no idea they not only sold here in South Africa but were actually made here, This one is a May 1982 model
I cannot wait to give it a clean up and service tomorrow.
I have loads of Hoover literature from the 60's onward including a service manual of all things Hoover in SA, I also have contact with someone who worked in a Hoover retail and service center and no mention of this machine has ever been made,,,, But I also never asked

Oh yes the Dial A Matic motor, also the Slimline and Portable motor.

I think 1982 was the last year they had them in the Portapower, then they switched to the Spirit motor. At least here in the States.
