I'm considering buying a new vacuum for my mom to replace her Dyson DC07 Animal, which is turning 10 years old next month. She lives in a small apartment with no pets.

After doing some research, I've decided on a Hoover. I've narrowed it down to either getting her a WindTunnel T-Series Rewind Plus (UH70120) or an Air Steerable (UH72400).

Now, I own a WindTunnel 2 Rewind Pet, which is similar to the T-Series. It's a very good vacuum; it does an excellent job on carpets and pet hair. The T-Series should serve a similar experience.

The vacuum I've had no experience with is the Air Steerable, so I'd like to ask everybody on here about their experiences with it if they've used one before.

I'm torn between these two Hoovers, but the Air Steerable does look appealing with its swivel steering and longer hose and wand.

Which one would work best for my mom?

Consumer Reports tests show the first Hoover in your post as being better on carpets and for above floor cleaning with tools, though it does not allow you to turn off the brush roll. It’s also listed as a Best Buy - good value for the money. It’s a better cleaner than the Air Steerable.

Here’s their summary:

“impressive cleaning and superb pet-hair pickup helped put this bagless upright on our winner's list. This model also delivers lots of suction for tools, manual carpet pile-height adjustment (better for matching the brush to the surface), and a retractable cord--all in a low-priced, relatively light machine that weighs just 18 pounds. Two things this value-priced model doesn't include: suction control for drapes and a brush on/off switch to safeguard bare floors' finish and prevent scattered dust and debris. Among upright brands, Hoover has been a solid performer in our tests over the past several years, though a notch below Miele and LG overall.”

Alright

Looks like that seals the deal! I will surprise my mom with the T-Series once I have enough money.

Personally...

I'd skip the T-Series. I've seen quite a few niggling quality issues with the ones that come through work, especially related to the canister top and a few other design choices on that revision of T-Series. A better bet in my mind would be the Hoover Rewind from Wal-Mart, it comes in slightly less expensive, keeps the good features, and swaps out some of the parts I've seen issues with for more simplistic/reliable ones. I'll link it below.

That Hoover Rewind sounds tempting at $44. Maybe I should buy that one instead.

Well

I looked at the Hoover Rewind today, and the price has gone up to $74. Looks like the $44 price was a Black Friday deal.

Yes...

The $44 is a black Friday deal they run every year. However the machine used to be $88, so that's still a savings of $14, and IMO a better buy than the T-Series.

Besides, Black Friday is over.
