I should really know this answer already, but what type of brush roll comes pre-installed in this model? Is it the black wooden version with cheap red beater bars? I'm hoping to find something with all bristles.

I've been cycling through well-used vacuums for the past few years, and I think it's time to get something NIB. My house is now nearly 1/2 hard floors, and I just need something that won't scratch the wood. Basically something less than $100, bagged, not loud, and with a longer cord. A 5amp Eureka like the SC678J is pretty close.

I wouldn't blame you, most houses now do hardwood flooring.

The SC679j comes with the black brushroll w/o replaceable bristles and the red beater bars.

IMO I would not even attempt a hardwood floor with a Sanitaire, regardless of which brushroll is (or is not) installed in the cleaner. At best, it's not going to clean well and just scatter dirt. At worst, the steel bottom plate could scratch the hardwood floor. Sanitaires are really not suited for hard floors. Their wheels, bottom plate, and agitation system are just not going to be a good match. I use my S661 strictly on carpets.

However, if it is carpets you are looking to clean, the Sanitaire is obviously going to be an A+ machine.

Good luck!
