This is what I brought on eBay, a vintage eureka hot shot model 1923 vacuum cleaner, this makes it my 2nd vintage eureka vacuum, the 1st one is a mid 90's excaulibur which I'll make another post of it soon, but here's the weird thing, on eBay there's 2 hot shots from each different seller, this one I got for $39.95 + $19.95 which makes the total of $59.90 and this one is not mint but in really great condition, the other one which is on eBay still is for $59.95 + $40 which makes it $99.95 and it's in rough condition, this one I got made me feel good about this one. I always wanted a vintage eureka like this one.

I noticed there's a small broken part on the vent but no big deal at all, it shouldn't effect the vacuum's performance at all.

The very first time I saw a Eureka “Hot Shot” was on “The Price is Right”!!! I actually think this is earlier than 1990 - maybe more like 1985.

EUREKA. The very best in vacuum cleaners.

They made the hot shot in '85? Wow I never thought of that. And yes Eureka is the very best vacuum cleaners! I gotta make a YouTube channel one day and show y'all my vacuum collection.

I noticed it uses the same bottom fill bag design as the Hoover convertible where they use type c bags. Soon I'll be using Kirby micron magic filtered bags for this one and my deluxe convertible U4189! I learned that from air-waycharlie that he posted 11 yrs ago.

Hi Gabriel...yes indeed, this is from way back in the 1980’s....it’s a precursor to the black “The Boss” that came out soon afterwards. Both names have that similar “powerful, confident, arrogant” sound to them! :-).

Eureka never had a bottom fill bag for their Dial-a-Nap uprights. The correct bag is Eureka’s top fill F&G bag.

It’s hard to see from your photo, but if that bag has a long paper throat that would drop the dirt from the top into a separate dust collection sack, then you have the correct bag. If it’s just a long bag that connects to the throat at bottom, it’s not the correct bag - even though it will work, just not as good as Eureka’s special bag design.

Gabriel,

The first four digits in the serial number denote the year and week made... 9035 breaks down as year 1990, week 35, which would be put as the week starting August 27/ending September 2 of that year.

Then I guess I was right the first place, this was made in 1990, because this one has the previous eureka logo that was used from 1989/90 to 2009, but if this made in 1985 it would have the 1982/83-89 logo which looks similar to the other one, if you know what I mean.🙂

Gabriel,

All correct... and some of the pre-1983 Eurekas still used the 1968 Eureka Williams "E" logo.

CrazyKirbyDude, I kinda hate to tell u this but please don't get upset lol, I have a 2012 Eureka Power Plus that I got for my 16th birthday and a 2014 Eureka Airspeed One for my 18th birthday, they both came from Walmart, sooo yea. They both work good. But I agree that the older eurekas work a lot more better.

Gabriel,

The logo you describe was first introduced in 1974 but only on printed matter initially... it was set in Helvetica Bold. The 1985 logo was in an italic (slanted) version of the font.

Gabriel,

What a nice looking 517 (1957-58)! It originally had these gray parts: bag, Emtor bottom and wheels, and red trim for the handle grip, foot switch, and the headlight and nozzle bumpers. It also used to have a gray cord with red plug ends.

In fact, the original tool set had almost all the tools in red (even though the Classic III ones are perfect substitutes)!

That Kirby was given to me as a present for my 12th birthday by my 6th grade teacher in '08, she was one of the best teachers in my school years, and yes it probably did had the original red/gray parts but this was factory rebuild in September '96, sadly the factory rebuild sticker came off 4 yrs ago so I don't know the actual serial number to this one, but most of all, the Kirby works really awesome. 60 years old!

When I got the 517 for my birthday, it even came with an attachment set too, it was mixed colors of green (d80), tan (sanitronic/d50), and brown (1cr or 1cb), the hose attachment was brown too but 3 yrs ago I removed the hose end parts and added it to a long white Panasonic hose I found on the curb on my way home from school, but soon I'm planning on buying a new set of Kirby attachments, the current one for the avalir and a 12 ft stretch hose, both from eBay.

Congrats!! Love these!
I wanted one of these ever since I saw Bob Barker give them away in the very early 90's. I would watch The price is right every morning in 1990 while waiting for Mom to take me to kindergarten. My class was at noon and Price is right was on right before we would leave. I was glued to the TV to see this vacuum. I finally got one last year and it's like freaking NEW. Mine is dated 1989 on both the serial number and the time dial on the bottom.
