I am using a Classic I Rug Renovator that I had modified for use with my Heritage II. Several years back, I replaced the foam rubber filter which goes in the tank hose outlet.
The filter had disintegrated while the machine was running and crumbled into the tank. What could I use in a pinch to serve as a substitute filter?

Another piece of 1/2" thick open cell foam! It could be from packing material or from a crafts store, or such. Just as long as water can go through it. My mom used a piece of cloth from a t-shirt once - in a pinch! Oddly it is still on the tank 10 years later.

Or

You could order one, or a pack of them on eBay.
I highly recommend the seller Kirbyfan.

One more question about the Kirby Renovator

Does the Rug Renovator have two filters (one where the tank hose connects and another where the tank attaches to the exhaust outlet)? This is for an older one, not G-Series. Thanks to Kirbysthebest and Texaskirbyguy for your advice.

One more question about the Kirby Renovator

Does the rug renovator have two filters? I know that a small foam rubber filter goes where the small hose connects, but isn't there another larger filter where the pump connects to the exhaust outlet? Thanks to Kirbysthebest and Texaskirbyguy for your advice.

I know the Heritage II's Shampoo Tank had a filter on the end that goes onto the Exhaust Outlet. I'm not sure about previous models, but they probably had the filter as well. I imagine a G Series one would fit just fine.

The foam filter is where the tank attaches to the machine, the other where the hose attaches is your suds generator, also called the suds screen.

Another problem with the Rug Renovator

Recently, I have replaced both foam rubber filters for a Classic I Rug Renovator modified for use on a H-II model. I used Kirby Rug Pre-Treatment spray before shampooing. I filled the tank with water and the specified amount of rug/upholstery shampoo. I did not see any suds accumulate in the tray and a small amount was distributed onto the carpeting. I went over the area several times. The tray accumulated only dirt, dirty carpet fiber lint, and other debris--I had thoroughly vacuumed the carpeting with my other Kirby beforehand. The carpeting looks somewhat better than before, but not what I had expected. Why were the suds not accumulating as they should? Should I just rent a shampooer next time?
