Hey all, I have been recently playing around with my Rainbow D4 SE, which is currently my favorite machine. This led me to do a lot of research on the Rainbow brand and where they are nowadays. I saw that they made something called the Rainmate, which they advertise as a humidifier, air purifier, and an aromatherapy diffuser. I see that they also offer different scents to put into the unit.

From what I understand it pulls air in through the back, filters it through the water, and then blows it out the front (which is supposed to be clean and fresh air). I decided to bite the bullet and buy one on eBay for roughly $70, and I have high hopes that I am really going to like this. Does anybody have experience that they could share about this unit? Any comments are very appreciated!

Nick

Rainbow Rainmate

I own one, but hardly ever use it because it's too noisy and it doesn't have any lights like the newest one has. Sirena makes one that cost less and I kinda want one it but not sure if it's loud or not .

At first I thought it was so cool....but that wore off quickly. All it does is send scent throughout the room. If you use tap water and it's hard, it will start getting all over the top of the unit. I decided to just stop using it. I prefer just putting the scent in the rainbow itself and it goes all over the house much better when I'm cleaning.

I have the lighted black one. I use genuine scents in mine, but not just a few drops like it says. I actually squirt the fragrance in. You will still have to
move it from room to room. I usually put it in my kitchen and then my master bath.

I have two Rainbows. An SE PE and a Black E2. I squirt the scent in the water
basins as well. The scent is much better in the SE PE, due to no Hepa Filter.
I use it while doing my vacuuming with the scent in it. With that said, I actually prefer my SE PE over the E2 for two reasons. The scent is more noticble
and I actually feel it has more suction than my E2. Note, I am very careful
not to pick up any non wettable items ever....

One more note, if you take the E2 hepa filter out, the E2 has more suction.

An air purifier it is not. I do use mine more during the winter as a humidifier. I usually have to add a cup of water a day. I sleep with mine on but, I enjoy the white noise it makes.

My Mom and I have one in every room of the house. We love them. Air "cleaner" it's not however its wonderful for freshening. I don't put drops in I squirt the stuff in.
My Mom does what Rainbow says is a no no but it's worked for her for 15 years or so. She goes to Romancing The Stone in the Mall and buys oil for it. They are fine as long as you clean it very well so it doesn't build up. Her favorite scent is dragon's blood.
We have both Rainbow and Thermax versions of these. Both are great.

I have one in white and a e2 gold. The rain mate is louder the the rainbow in air purifier mode. It don't think it purifies like the rainbow dose because i doesn't have a filter. The rainbow is more powerful too in air purifier mode. I find the rain mate only good as a humidifier and aroma machine.

Thanks guys!!

Thanks for all of your thoughts and sharing your experiences! I truly appreciate it. I will be buying a lot of the genuine scents to try out. I am friends with the owner of the local vac shop so he sells everything to me at his price (usually much cheaper). What do the rainbow scents sell for usually?

I should add....

Anybody have a favorite genuine Rainbow scent? I hear Fresh Air is very good.

I had one that matched my Rainbow E series vacuum then I got one the new ones with the lights, it's still a single speed, but there is high and low on the lights. In the winter time I will use it with eucalyptus or I'll throw a couple of Menthol Crystals in the water. I think I paid $40 for mine from my friendly Rainbow dealer.

Hint: don't use too much eucalyptus otherwise it smells like a Koala bear pissed in your bedroom.

Distributors all over the nation sell for different prices. We sell the 4 pack for $25 with scents of your choice minus the luxury edition since we don't stock them but we can get them.
