So today I got the vacuum with a bad motor. Was a trade in as they told the customer you can't get the motor any more.

I got home and plugged it in to hear a horrible sound. I began to dismantle it.

The motor must have been GLUED in, I found the 3 screws that held the motor bracket, but the whole thing would not move...drastic measures caused me to beat the heck out of the motor cover smashing one of the two stage fans.

The vacuum is complete, so now I am looking around in my stuff to determine if I have a 2 stage Ametek motor that will fit.

Can anyone tell me off hand what other vacuums use this motor?

Okay, so...

I got a matching motor, but failed to notice it is a 3 wire instead of a 2 wire.

What do I do next?

Does anyone know?

I don't want to ruin this motor and I have done Google searches and can't find an answer.

Look for Kenmore Powermate or Whispertone canisters from the late '80s or early 90's. There were a few models that had a 2 speed 3 wire motor.

UPDATE..

So I determined the extra wire appears to run the motor on a lower speed. I tested this out having clamped the motor in a vice, hooked a power cord to each wire and plugged the cord into a power strip with a breaker.

I must have joined the correct wire up both times.

I have put the motor into the body and joined all the wires had marked prior to taking it apart. I had to change the power cord which was burgundy with a horrid white plastic aftermarket plug.

This unit has a PCB board and a sliding switch in addition to a push on and off button switch. I am pretty certain I have everything connected correctly, but will be running it by my electrical and electronics friend to make sure.

Hopefully everything will work out.

*I really should finish the 11 other projects before beginning another*

Second to last update...

for those who are following. I have to replace the Power Nozzle elbow and the bottom plate. It is missing the bars on the bottom below the beater brush.

I think I have a replacement.

Once is is all done, I will post a picture.

Thanks
