I got this off of Ebay. All the parts seem to be there and it's in good cosmetic condition. He claims he has disassembled the machine and cleaned it inside too. The price was $260.00 + shipping a few days ago. Today it dropped to $199.00. Didn't figure it would go any lower, so I went for it. I haven't seen a nicer looking one for the price. What do you all think? My mother needs something in the basement to clean with that's not a Kirby. There's not that much carpet down there. She can use the Kirby upstairs. Is this machine quiet like the Electroluxes of old?

It's certainly a clean and pretty machine and complete with all its accessories. If it's all the seller says it is, you shouldn't have to do a thing to it. There's no 'Kelley Blue Book' on these things--they're pretty much worth what somebody's willing to pay--but I'd say $199 plus shipping is a retail price. You could easily find one in lesser condition for considerably less money and then spend the difference making it as nice as that one. At the end of the day, you're the final arbiter of whether it's a good deal. If you're happy with it for what you paid, then it was worth the price.

I totally ....

agree with Edgar. You paid a premium price for this vac + shipping......but that's eBay. For Diamond J's I now try craigslist across the country.  But you have to convince the seller that you're not a scammer and that they agree to ship.  It can get twitchy....especially since you're coming to them.

However, to find something like that on craigslist in that kinda condition is somewhat rare, but not impossible. If someone gets tired of dragging an Electrolux canister around, often they buy a upright and keep the Lux in a closet.

Everything relies here on the honesty of your sellers description. If he's honest then you saved yourself all the cleanup and prep.

Hi Brian and All,
That is a great looking Electrolux 1521 Ultralux. I think you got a good price on a really clean machine and I bet it will run like new. I have a Lux G I bought years ago and I just got a Silverado off Craigslist which is no way near as nice as your 1521. I have seen too often members be a bit critical, sorry. I am new to Vacuumland but I have repaired, not restored, hundreds of vacuums as I worked about 6 years for Ben Condo which owned a vac and sew shop in Glendale California. I buy and sell on eBay and there are a lot of really good sellers out there. I don’t sell much in the way of vacuums but I have bought a number of them recently.
Good luck Brian and that is a really nice Electorlux.
Thank you for looking,
Pete
