Anyone remember the vacuums that had a dust bin on the extension wand of a canister? | ||

Eureka offered this as a "bag-saver" feature on some deluxe canisters in the last 20 years. The idea behind the cyclonic attachment was that large debris would be captured by the wand bin while finer dirt continued on through the hose toward the bag in the cleaner itself. You could easily empty out the clear bin and perhaps decrease the frequency of bag changes while maintaining suction for longer periods of time. You could also easily rescue valuables like loose change or jewelry accidentally sucked up by the vacuum.

There was one on eBay not long ago I had it in my watch list for awhile. It was a buy it now offer. I always had something else to spend my $29 on so took it off my watch list. Not sure if its still on there now. | ||

I will speculate that they didn't gain widespread popularity because they added clunckiness to the wands. Also with the bagless revolution going on at the time, why bother with another air-flow robber. | ||

I suspect this concept never made it far because, like Kirbysthebest said, why make a partially cyclonic vacuum when you could have a fully cyclonic one? An improved version of the system would essentially be a fully cyclonic canister vacuum, which is what we have progressed to today.
Besides, I don't really think the "bag saver" compliments a bagged machine well to begin with. If it still leaves behind the fine dust, well, that's what kills off bags anyways. Small particles, not large ones, clog the pores of dust bags. broomvac | ||

Didn't Eureka canisters have this device some years back?Yes,could see this for some bulky pickups-or if you were vacuuming for a lost coins or something like that. | ||

Yes, Eureka Europa canisters had it. Possibly the Excalibur also. The Excalibur was made by Volta, and one of the Europa models was an Electrolux Excellio. | ||

I also enjoy watching your vacuum videos on YT, Mike, especially your cyclone tests of both store-bought cyclonic systems and ones you have modified or created. I can relate--I have always been fascinated with making my own cyclonic systems. Recently, I put together a stand-alone dual cyclonic system with remarkable efficiency. I'll see about sharing it with you all one of these days once I get some time...
