This is the Hoover Compact Electronic S3500 at my family's villa in Spain; by the look of it it was among the last original style Compacts made. As you can see from the label it was made in Portugal, so they must've continued making the original style for longer; can anyone shed some light on this?

I thought the Compact cylinders were originally made in France, alongside the Sensotronics?

Perhaps when they moved to the Vogue, Sprint and Galaxy models, they decided to move the older machines' production to Portugal?

The Alpinas were, I believe, made at the Cambuslang factory in Scotland. There was a great hoo-haa about the French complaining about the move to Scotland, but Cambuslang workers saw it as the return, since the French had 'nicked' the production of the Sensotronics in the first place.

Aye fairly likely they did continue production of the older style Compacts in Portugal. There is another one on Vacland almost identical to mine, but the switch is in white, and of course the variable power slider still works, unlike on mine; its on the 'Additions to my collection' thread: www.vacuumland.org/cgi-bin/TD/TD-...

Some pics taken a couple of weeks ago after a bit of light restoration work, namely replacing the rear right side wheel which broke, and giving it a bit of a clean
